Restaurants inside the scenic area tend to charge higher prices, though not as pricey as those in Guangzhou. However, overcharging does happen. I once ordered a plate of wild vegetables that cost 49 yuan!
Never order based only on dish names. Always check both the name and the price.
There are two iconic restaurants serving authentic Lushan flavour.
Shiniu Restaurant

We chose this top-rated restaurant on Mafengwo for our first proper meal on the mountain. It is a little off the beaten track.
Recommended Dishes
- Scrambled Eggs with Stone Fish
Tiny stone fish. The dish is fresh and crisp. ¥25
- Lushan Stone Frogs
They look and taste just like field frogs but with tenderer meat. The flavour is great, though the price is a bit steep. ¥88
We also had one stir-fry and a bowl of soup. The total bill for three people was around 150 yuan.
Classic Local Specialties
Scrambled Eggs with Stone Fish, Lushan Stone Ear, Braised Stone Frogs, Lushan Chinese Cabbage, Braised Pork with Bamboo Shoot Skins, Wild Celery.
Small Courtyard Restaurant

I did my homework on Mafengwo and picked this restaurant, which ranks second only to Shiniu Restaurant.
Hiking left me totally exhausted; I could easily finish three bowls of rice.
Recommended Dishes
- Iron Plate Eggplant
Perfect with rice, slightly sweet. As a Fujian native, I really enjoyed it.
- Grass Carp with Soybeans
Excellent value for money. Generous portion, sour and spicy, goes wonderfully with rice.
We ordered another dish plus a soup. I cannot recall the exact prices.
Prices are similar to Shiniu Restaurant, yet I find the taste and environment here slightly better. If I had to choose only one, I would go for Small Courtyard.
