Three Must-see Attractions
Flower Path
Flower Path Park sits beside Ruqin Lake, 2 kilometres southwest of Guling Street. You can drive here or walk along Dalin Road, where you will pass a glacial relic — the Ice Table Rock, also known as the Flying Stone.
This is the place where the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi composed his famous poem Peach Blossoms in Dalin Temple.
In 816, when Bai Juyi was demoted to Jiujiang, he travelled up Lushan in late spring. All peach blossoms had faded at the foot of the mountain, yet they were still in full bloom here. Inspired by the sight, he wrote:
Flowers fade in mortal world in April’s prime,
Peach blossoms bloom in mountain temple still.
I grieve spring’s departure with no clue,
Till I find it hidden in this vale anew.
Later generations named this place “Bai Sima’s Flower Path” and built the Jingbai Pavilion in memory of him.
The Bai Juyi Cottage Exhibition Hall was built in 1988, and a stone statue of Bai Juyi created by the renowned sculptor Wang Keqing was erected by the lake in 1996.
A stone tablet in Flower Path Pavilion bears the two characters “Flower Path”, said to be Bai Juyi’s own handwriting.
Ruqin Lake gets its name from its violin shape, connected to the lake island by a zigzag bridge. The park is covered with blooming flowers, dotted with pavilions and stone steles. Winding quiet paths and picturesque lake-and-mountain scenery make it a paradise.
Three-Tiered Spring
Each tier of the waterfall has its unique charm.
The first tier plunges straight down more than 20 metres.
The second tier bends and pours into the deep pool below.
An ancient description reads:
The upper tier drifts like flying snow and trailing silk;
the middle tier shatters like broken jade and cracking ice;
the lower tier surges forward like a jade dragon diving into the pool.
Standing at the bottom tier and looking upward, you will see water splashing like thousands of white egrets darting up and down, or hundreds of silk veils dancing in the sky, with countless pearls pouring down from above.
In the rainy season from late spring to early summer, the waterfall roars down like an angry jade dragon piercing the blue sky, creating thunderous rumble that takes every visitor’s breath away.
Among all waterfalls on Kuanglu Mountain, Three-Tiered Spring ranks first. There is a local saying: You cannot call yourself a true Lushan visitor without seeing Three-Tiered Spring.
For centuries, this waterfall remained hidden in remote mountain valleys. Neither Li Bai, who lived upstream at Pingfeng Die, nor Zhu Xi, who gave lectures downstream at White Deer Cave Academy, ever found it. It was not discovered until the Southern Song Dynasty.
Five Elders Peak
Sharp and towering, the peak reaches toward the sky and is famous for its magnificent scenery all over the country.
If you climb to the summit at dawn or dusk, you can enjoy brilliant golden sunrise and sunset glow.
When mountain winds rise, thick white clouds wrap the whole mountain in mist. Lakes, forests and distant peaks vanish in an instant. Soon the fog lifts, revealing the clear blue sky. Beneath it, Poyang Lake shimmers like a huge mirror reflecting sailing boats clearly.
White clouds set off the grandeur of the five peaks and create poetic scenes.
Shrouded in mist, they look like five immortals riding clouds high above the ground.
Bathed in moonlight against blue skies, they resemble a giant lotus flower blooming upward, extremely bright and beautiful.
Generations of poets and scholars were captivated by the stunning views and left numerous poems here.
The great Tang poet Li Bai wrote an immortal verse:
Five Elders Peak rises southeast of Lushan,
Carved out of heaven like a golden lotus blossom.
All the beauty of Jiujiang I may gather,
I will build my hut amid pines and cloud.
Important Travel Tips

The temperature on Lushan is 7–10℃ lower than in Jiujiang. It gets chilly in the morning and evening, so please bring a jacket.

Fresh water is scarce on the mountain top. Hot water for bathing in hotels is only supplied for limited hours. Please check the hotel’s water supply schedule.

Mountain roads have many sharp bends, which may cause carsickness. There are mosquitoes and other insects due to dense vegetation. Please bring common medicines such as motion sickness pills, essential balm and Huoxiang Zhengqi water.

During peak tourist season, a shuttle bus system is operated to ease traffic pressure between scenic spots; exclusive coaches for single tour groups are not available. With limited vehicles, waiting one hour for a bus is quite normal.

For safety reasons, the local traffic authority bans tourist vehicles from driving uphill between 22:00 and 06:00. Please take this into consideration when arranging your itinerary.
Local Food
The most famous local delicacies are “One Tea and Three Treasures”: Lushan Cloud and Mist Tea, stone frogs, stone fungus and stone fish.

Recommended Itineraries
Lushan boasts a great many scenic spots with rich cultural heritage.
A one-day tour only allows you a quick glimpse, so a minimum three days is needed for a thorough visit.
If your time is limited, a well-planned route matters most.
