Local Specialties of Xiapu
Xiapu Kelp
Xiapu kelp is unrivalled in taste and quality. It serves both as fine delicacy and valuable herbal ingredient.
Kelp farms here are adjacent to breeding grounds for large yellow croakers and other marine fish. The clean, nutrient-rich seawater helps Xiapu kelp outperform kelp grown in other coastal waters in shape, taste and nutritional value.
Xiapu Laver
Xiapu is hailed as the "Hometown of Laver in China". The core planting areas enjoy a unique ecological environment, so the laver excels over other varieties in appearance, color, nutrition and texture.
Late-maturing Litchis from Xiapu
Xiapu County marks the northernmost coastal zone for commercial litchi cultivation in China.
With a long planting history and unique climate, Xiapu’s litchis ripen from late July to early August, more than one month later than the same varieties grown in Guangdong and Guangxi.
The fruit is heart-shaped with a tapered yet rounded tip and slightly raised shoulders. The peel is bright red with small spikes on the crackled segments. The flesh is milky white and translucent, tender, juicy and seed-free, with a balanced sweet-and-sour flavor and rich aroma.
Xiapu Shell Carving
Shell carving is a traditional craft made by artisans with elaborate workmanship using various seashells.
This distinctive art form largely developed after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Exquisitely crafted shell carvings from Xiapu can be displayed as home decorations or presented as gifts to relatives and friends.
Xiapu Preserved Mustard Tuber
Xiapu is one of China’s three major production bases for preserved mustard tuber. Local farmers have grown this vegetable for more than 40 years
