Best Time to Visit Yushu, Qinghai
Most travelers choose to visit Yushu in summer. The weather is warm, with frequent night rains that keep the land moist. Though located in Northwest China, Yushu enjoys relatively mild weather, making it a natural summer resort.
July and August are the ideal travel months. The Yushu Grassland is covered with lush green grass, presenting a spectacular view. This is also when the Yushu Horse Racing Festival and Khampa Culture & Art Festival kick off. Colorful tents stretch for kilometers around the venues, forming a unique tent city seen from afar.
Yushu features a typical alpine cold climate. There are only warm and cold seasons here rather than four distinct seasons. The warm season lasts from May to October, while the rest of the year is the cold season with frigid temperatures and uneven humidity.
The annual average temperature stands at around 3°C, with a record low of -27°C and a record high of 28°C. The average annual precipitation is 486 millimeters. The oxygen content in the local air is one-third to one-half lower than that at sea level.
