Lijiaxia Reservoir is currently the world's largest hydropower station with double-row generating units, and also the third major hydropower station in the cascade development of the upper Yellow River.
It forms the second grand gorge lake on the upper reaches of the Yellow River. The once turbulent and untamable "great yellow dragon" (the Yellow River) is finally tamed and confined here at Lijiaxia.
A yacht ride is the best way to tour the reservoir. A yacht dock is located at the entrance of Nanzong Gully, offering round trips to the dock on the north bank of Lijiaxia.
Note: The reservoir is only open to visitors from May Day to National Day every year. At other times, it can only be viewed from a distance.
