Best Travel Time for Mohe
Mohe is China’s northernmost city and also the coldest one nationwide, featuring a cold temperate continental monsoon climate. Its winters are frigid, dry and prolonged; summers see concentrated, abundant rainfall with warm humid weather and long sunshine hours; spring and autumn have volatile conditions: windy and dry in spring, while temperatures plummet sharply in autumn.
Mohe’s summer is extremely short, lasting merely half a month from mid-July to the end of the month. Yet days are long and nights brief, with the longest daylight reaching 19 hours, hence its nickname “City of Endless Daylight”. Most importantly, tourists visiting in summer stand a good chance of witnessing the aurora dancing across the sky at the local Arctic Village. Mohe is the only spot in China to view the aurora borealis, whose dazzling, multicolored glow leaves an unforgettable impression.

Mohe’s winters are bitterly cold and lengthy. Snowfall generally begins as early as September and does not cease until mid-May the following year. If you plan a winter trip to Mohe, you must take extra care to keep yourself warm and protect electronic devices such as mobile phones and digital cameras against freezing temperatures. All winter activities in Mohe revolve around ice and snow: the vast snow seas of Arctic Village, ice lantern and snow sculpture exhibitions in Mohe County, as well as horse-drawn sleds deliver unique, delightful fun.
