What Tourist Attractions Are There in Heilongjiang? Where Are the Fun Spots in Heilongjiang?
Ever since the reality show Where Are We Going, Dad? made Snow Town a household name, 90% of people immediately associate Heilongjiang with Harbin, ice sculptures and Snow Town. In truth, Heilongjiang boasts countless fantastic scenic spots. Let’s take a closer look at them below.
Summers here are pleasantly cool, with numerous rivers, lakes and vast forested areas serving as ideal summer retreats. The winter snowscapes leave visitors utterly captivated, and stepping into the world of ice sculptures lets you behold miniature wonders from all over the globe within a short distance. Heilongjiang Province is endowed with abundant tourism resources: ancient volcanic relics, rolling mountain ranges and vast marshlands. It is home to many rare wild animals including swans, red-crowned cranes, Siberian tigers, Amur leopards and musk deer, with multiple nature reserves built across the province. Heilongjiang also lays claim to several national "extremes" — China’s easternmost point (Heixiazi Island), northernmost point (Arctic Village in Mohe) and coldest spot (Huzhong Town).
Wudalianchi — Famous Tourist Town of Volcanoes and Mineral Springs
Located in north-central Heilongjiang, Wudalianchi mainly consists of the five interconnected lake clusters, surrounding volcanic geological formations, related cultural landscapes, vegetation and water scenery, and teems with wild flora and fauna. Fourteen volcanic cones and a series of volcanic mineral springs scatter around the lakes, jointly forming one-of-a-kind volcanic vistas featuring elegant mountains, serene waters, magical springs and bizarre rock formations.
Heixiazi Island — Famous Border Trade Tourism Town
China’s Eastern Border Trade City and the No.1 Cross-Border Island. Even before half of Heixiazi Island was returned to China, Wusu Town in Fuyuan had long drawn countless couples on pilgrimages, for it sits at China’s easternmost territory, the first place in the country to greet the sunrise. It boasts a renowned fishing village and the heroic Eastern First Border Post. The Sunrise Square and the floating bridge connecting to the island are unmissable landmarks. The island also features the former Russian military barracks, a wetland park and a handover monument.
Zhalong Wetland — Hometown of Red-Crowned Cranes
Zhalong Wetland lies on the Songnen Plain in western Heilongjiang. Dotted with lakes and crisscrossed by waterways, it has crystal-clear water and lush reeds, hailed as a natural paradise for birds and waterfowl. It was inscribed on the List of Wetlands of International Importance in 1992.
Jingpo Lake — Famous Scenic Town of Lakes and Mountains
Just over a hundred kilometers from downtown Mudanjiang, "Jingpo" translates to "calm as a mirror". The winding lake is studded with islets of all sizes. It integrates geological marvels including underground primeval forests inside volcanic craters and underground lava tunnels, as well as historical cultural sites represented by the ruins of the Bohai Kingdom from the Tang Dynasty. A comprehensive scenic zone, it caters to scientific research, summer getaways, sightseeing, vacations and cultural exchanges.
Huzhong — China’s Coldest Town
Known as China’s Coldest Town, Huzhong perches atop the Greater Khingan Range. It has an annual average temperature of -4.3°C, with a record low of -53.2°C — the lowest temperature ever recorded in China’s meteorological history, hence its moniker. The air here is pristine, free of smog all year round, and the ecosystem remains untouched. Visitors can gaze up at stars and the moon, and mountain spring water is safe to drink directly.
