How Is Zhalong Scenic Spot in Qiqihar?
Zhalong is a renowned national nature reserve for rare waterfowl in China, located 30 kilometres southeast of the urban area, covering a total area of 210,000 hectares. The reserve features low-lying terrain with overflowing rivers, dense reeds and scattered lakes and ponds, forming a natural paradise ideal for waterfowl to inhabit and breed.
Statistics show that Zhalong Nature Reserve is home to 296 species of birds. It is world-famous for its abundant crane populations. There are 15 crane species worldwide, 9 of which live in China, and 6 can be spotted in Zhalong, including red-crowned cranes, white-naped cranes, demoiselle cranes, grey cranes and hooded cranes. For this reason, Qiqihar enjoys the laudatory title of "Hometown of Cranes".
Known as the "Water Town of the North", Zhalong boasts picturesque scenery. In late spring and midsummer, the reeds turn lush green. Aquatic plants such as water lettuce and water caltrops float on the clear water surface, surrounded by emerald grasslands blooming with fragrant wild flowers. Wandering through this northern wetland and watching rare wild birds swim freely, visitors will instantly feel a genuine sense of returning to nature.
