The Mysterious Ethnic Group — the Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe
Where are the Ewenki tribes located? Why do the Ewenki tribes make a living by raising reindeer?
"Ewenki" means "people living in vast mountain forests". "Aoluguya" is an Ewenki word that translates to "a place lush with poplar forests". Deep in the primeval forests of the Greater Khingan Range at 52 degrees north latitude, traces of the Ewenki people and curling cooking smoke can still be found to this day. For generations, the Ewenki people of Aoluguya were a hunting tribe dwelling in the dense woods of the Greater Khingan Range, surviving by hunting wild game and raising reindeer. The Ewenki ethnic group is China’s last hunting tribe in the north, as well as the only ethnic minority in China that breeds reindeer.
The era of nomadic migration has faded into history, yet the heritage of this ethnic group must never be abandoned. What belongs to a nation ultimately belongs to the whole world.
