Official Name: The Ancient City of Jiaohe (also called Yarghul Ruins)
Geographic Position: It lies in Yar Township (Yarnaz Valley), Gaochang District, Turpan City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, roughly 10–13 kilometers west of downtown Turpan, sitting on a willow-leaf-shaped loess platform surrounded by two river valleys with cliffs about 30 meters high.

Cultural Status
It is a key national cultural relic protection unit, and a component site of the World Heritage Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor inscribed in 2014. Known as the world’s largest, oldest and best-preserved raw-earth-built ancient city, it is praised as "the most perfect ruins on Earth". Founded by the Cheshi people from the 2nd century BC, it peaked in the Tang Dynasty and once housed the earliest Anxi Protectorate of the Tang Empire, then was abandoned after frequent wars from the 9th to 14th centuries.
2. Detailed Transportation Guide (How to Get There)
(1) From Urumqi to Turpan (Long-distance traffic)
High-speed train: Depart from Urumqi Station / Urumqi West Station to Turpan North Railway Station. The ride takes 40–60 minutes, ticket price around 50–80 CNY. This is the most recommended way.
Highway bus: Long-distance buses run from Urumqi South Bus Station to Turpan Bus Station, taking about 2 hours.
(2) From downtown Turpan to Jiaohe Ruins (4 mainstream ways)
① Taxi / Ride-hailing (Most convenient for independent travelers)
Distance: ~11 km, driving time: 15–20 minutes
One-way fare: 25–40 CNY. Suggest negotiating a round-trip deal (waiting fee included, total 60–90 CNY for 2–3 hours waiting), because taxis are scarce around the scenic spot for return trips.
② Public Bus (Budget choice)
Take Bus No.1 / No.101 / No.7 at Xincheng Road in central Turpan, get off at Yar Township terminal (fare: 2 CNY, ride time ≈40 mins).
Transfer options after getting off: tricycle (3 CNY per person), private mini taxi (15 CNY per car), local horse cart (20 CNY per car) to the scenic gate.
Note: Public buses have sparse return schedules; confirm the last bus time with the driver in advance.
③ Self-driving
Paved road leads directly to the scenic parking lot; driving time from Turpan urban area is only 18 minutes, with free parking space available.
④ Electric bicycle rental
Rent an e-bike in Turpan city (30–50 CNY/day). The road is flat alongside grape valleys, suitable for slow sightseeing except hot summer noons.
(3) From Turpan Airport / Turpan Railway Station
Turpan Airport → Jiaohe Ruins: 18 km, 38 mins by car
Turpan Railway Station → Jiaohe Ruins: 54 km, around 70 mins by car
