Local Specialties of Shuozhou
Yingxian Purple Garlic
Grown around Xiaoshikou area at the foot of Mount Heng, this garlic has purplish-red skin, plump bulbs and large cloves with a strong pungent flavor. Its outer skin is loose while the thin husks wrapping the inner cloves stay tight.
Garlic paste made from ordinary garlic tends to discolor and go stale overnight, yet paste prepared with Yingxian Purple Garlic can keep its original color and taste for two to three days.
Black Jade Porcelain
Porcelain making in Shuozhou dates back a long way, with production starting as early as the Northern Wei Dynasty. Thanks to high-quality clay near Huairen County and the inheritance of traditional techniques, local black jade porcelain has a glossy luster, graceful appearance and great durability, winning wide acclaim among consumers.
