Officially named Sakyamuni Pagoda of Fogong Temple, it stands in Fogong Temple in the northwest of Yingxian County, Shanxi Province. Commonly known as the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda for its all-wood structure, it reaches a total height of 67.31 meters. It is the only surviving large pagoda entirely built of wood in China, and ranks among the Four Great Marvel Pagodas of the World, together with the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Eiffel Tower and the Great Pyramid of Egypt. Two Buddhist śarīra relics are enshrined inside the pagoda.
Positioned between the main gate and the grand hall along the temple's north-south central axis, it follows the traditional layout of pagoda in the front, hall in the rear. The octagonal pagoda is erected on a 4-meter-high stone platform.
