Langya Ink Garden is the first scenic spot upon entering the mountain resort. Built in the architectural style of Suzhou classical gardens, it features interconnected pavilions, halls, terraces, verandas, covered corridors, arched stone bridges, rockeries and winding paths, creating an enchanting landscape.
The Stele Corridor inside the Ink Garden serves as an ideal venue for tourists to learn about and conduct research on Langya Mountain. It houses a well-curated collection of precious poems and prose related to the culture of Langya Mountain and Zuiweng Pavilion, together with more than 200 pieces of calligraphy masterpieces by celebrities, all carved and inlaid on stone tablets. The exhibited works include calligraphy from Qiao Shi, former Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; Li Tieying, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; renowned calligraphers Shen Peng, Xiao Xian, Chen Dayu, Lai Shaoqi and Fan Zeng; Li Shan, a Chinese painter and calligrapher residing in the United States; Sun Ke, former President of the Executive Yuan of the Nationalist Government; and Cai Yuanpei, a distinguished educator.
A visit to Langya Ink Garden allows visitors not only to appreciate the exquisite garden scenery of Langya Mountain, but also offers an excellent opportunity to deepen their understanding and research of the mountain’s cultural heritage.
Ouyang Xiu Memorial Hall
The Ouyang Xiu Memorial Hall stands 400 meters to the west of Zuiweng Pavilion. It consists of an eastern courtyard and a western courtyard linked by pavilions and covered corridors, balancing tranquil exhibition spaces and open scenic views harmoniously. The hall’s horizontal inscription was handwritten by Guo Moruo.
Inside the hall stands a statue of Ouyang Xiu, alongside thirty murals fully documenting his life. These exhibits comprehensively illustrate his conduct as a person, governance as an official, academic pursuits and literary achievements, recreating the authentic image of this towering literary giant for all visitors.
Inlaid along both sides of the courtyard corridors are stone steles inscribed with Record of Zuiweng Pavilion handwritten by celebrated calligraphers across dynasties, including Su Shi, Su Tangqing, Zhu Yunming (Zhu Zhishan), Zhao Mengfu, Wen Zhengming and Dong Qichang. Standing amid these masterpieces, visitors cannot help but marvel at the extraordinary artistic craftsmanship.
