Zhenjiang Food & Leisure Tour
Zhenjiang cuisine is a major branch of Huaiyang cuisine, with many authentic delicacies served at humble street stalls. Restaurants cluster in the new urban area, while those in the old town feature a simple and down-to-earth charm. Here is a travel route to explore the old town’s fine eateries.
Pot lid noodles are a must-have for breakfast. They are only served in the morning in Zhenjiang and sold out after noon, so be sure to arrange this early in your itinerary. Exit from the back gate of Xijin Ferry and walk along Daxi Road to Dahua Noodle House next to the post office, where you can taste genuine local noodles. You may also visit time-honored shops along the road, such as Xiefuchun, the classic cosmetics brand.
Afterwards, take a stroll around Boxian Park or the ancient buildings on Boxian Road, where numerous snack stalls line the streets. Towards noon, head for Laoyanchun Restaurant on Renmin Street to try authentic Zhenjiang pressed pork and crab roe soup dumplings.
Spend the whole afternoon exploring Jiaoshan Hill Park. In the evening, return to Xijin Ferry and dine at Zhenjiang Restaurant or Bafenbao Restaurant near the parking lot to sample local specialties. Bafenbao boasts exquisite decor and affordable prices, though its service is just average — simply enjoy your meal and pay it no mind.
On the second day, set off from Xijin Ferry for Nanshan Hill Park. At noon, stop by Zhouli Old Duck Vermicelli Restaurant on Daxi Road for a bowl of delicious duck blood and vermicelli soup. Spend your leisure afternoon relaxing at a lounge or bar inside Xijin Ferry. Filter Factory 1966 and Dukeke Inn are highly recommended.
On the third day, tour the Three Hills. You can visit just one or take your time to see all three according to your preference. If you have extra days, a side trip to Yangzhou is well recommended.
