Tourist Attractions in Chongzuo

Chongzuo is a beautiful and enchanting land home to over 500 tourist resources, including landscapes, cultural relics, rare animals, ancient precious trees and primitive ecosystems. Among them, there is 1 national scenic area, 1 national nature reserve, 4 provincial nature reserves and 17 provincial cultural relic protection units.

Located on the upper reaches of the Guichun River in Daxin County, it stands roughly 50 meters away from the China-Vietnam Border Marker No.53 and 208 kilometers from Nanning, the regional capital. The main waterfall is 100 meters wide, 60 meters deep with a drop of 70 meters. It connects with Vietnam’s Ban Gioc Waterfall, forming a combined width of 208 meters. As the largest natural waterfall in Southeast Asia and the world’s second-largest transnational waterfall, Detian Waterfall boasts magnificent and varied scenery that changes with seasons: green grasses sprout in spring; surging rapids roar like dragons in summer; terraced fields glow golden in autumn; and splashing sprays glisten like jade beads in winter.

Also known as Shuibao Pagoda, it lies 2 kilometers northeast of downtown Chongzuo. This five-storey brick pagoda has a base diameter of 5 meters and an octagonal structure. Inside, spiral brick stairs wind counterclockwise all the way to the top, bringing a strong sense of tilt to visitors. Measured data shows the pagoda leans 4 degrees, 24 minutes and 64 seconds, towards west-southwest at an angle of 52 degrees, 16 minutes and 30 seconds.

Experts confirm that the tilt was deliberately designed by ancient craftsmen to adapt to river wind and foundation conditions. It is the world’s only artificially built leaning pagoda. Together with Huqiu Pagoda in Suzhou, Suizhong Pagoda in Liaoning, Huzhu Pagoda in Songjiang of Shanghai, Dangyang Iron Pagoda in Hubei, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, Kander Tower in Germany and the Palace of Westminster Clock Tower in the UK, it is hailed as one of the Eight Great Leaning Towers across the Globe.

Situated in Luobai Township, Jiangzhou District, 35 kilometers from central Chongzuo, the park covers an area of about 30 square kilometers and is a key tourist site under development in Guangxi. More than 1,400 plant species grow here, including rare and fast-growing varieties such as golden camellia, Garcinia paucinervis, ironwood and Canarium album. It is also home to over 100 animal species, among which the white-headed langur, a unique species worldwide, is the highlight. Dense primeval forests stretch across the whole scenic area.

Officially opened on August 11, 2002, the park has become a wonderful habitat for the white-headed langur, a national first-class protected wild animal.

Also called Zuojiang Stone Forest, it is located 5.5 kilometers south of downtown Chongzuo, covering 1,500 mu. The scenic area prioritizes the preservation of its original natural landscape with minimal artificial construction. It features exquisite peaks, serene caves, steep cliffs, bizarre rock formations, crisscrossing streams and lush greenery all year round.

Four kilometers west of Longzhou County seat, Little Liancheng is built against mountain terrains. There stand five artillery emplacements and one beacon tower on the main peak and adjacent hills. The major artillery emplacement on the summit is named Zhenlong Emplacement. In 1981, Little Liancheng was listed as a key cultural relic protection unit of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Perched on a sheer cliff in Yaoda Village, Tuolong Township, Ningming County, the west cliff facing the Mingjiang River is fully covered with ancient rock paintings. The entire painting stretches 172 meters wide, covering an area of over 8,000 square meters. There are more than 1,900 patterns painted with ochre pigment, including human figures, animals, bows and arrows.

Created by the Luoyue people during witchcraft activities from the Warring States Period to the Eastern Han Dynasty, Huashan Rock Paintings are invaluable cultural relics for studying the social history of the ancient Zhuang people. In 1988, it was designated as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level by the State Council. The Zuojiang River Basin boasts some of the best-preserved natural ecosystems and Zhuang ethnic cultural landscapes in Guangxi.

This national nature reserve is situated in Encheng Township, Daxin County. It is 13 kilometers from the county seat and 160 kilometers from Nanning, accessible via Nanning-Tainan Expressway and Provincial Highway 316. Featuring karst landforms of peak clusters, depressions and peak forest valleys, it integrates natural protection zones and scenic views, with a total area of around 150 square kilometers.

Originally named the Memorial Hall of the 8th Red Army Corps, it was founded on February 1, 1985. With the support of the regional government, the hall was relocated to Zhongyu Slope in the eastern part of Longzhou County in 2001. It occupies a total land area of 7.69 hectares with a floor space of 5,436 square meters, standing at the southern end of the memorial square. Completed on August 19, 2004, it was officially renamed Longzhou Uprising Memorial Hall.

Nestled among mountains in Pingbai Village, Changping Township, 7 kilometers north of Fusui County seat, the resort is 53 kilometers away from Nanning. It features dense karst peaks, three caves, one underground river and two lakes. Springs gush continuously in Guilongtan, flowing in winding courses with melodious running water. The spring water stays warm in winter and cool in summer, clear and blue, making it an ideal natural swimming pool.

Hidden in mountain canyons along the Guichun River in Shatun Village, Shuolong Town, Daxin County, the waterfalls lie about 50 kilometers west of the county seat and can be reached via the Daxin-Jingxi secondary road (Provincial Highway 316). Also known as Niandi Waterfalls, this karst canyon waterfall is around 60 meters wide with a total drop of 30 meters, cascading down in seven tiers.

Located in Mingshi Village, Kanxu Township, Daxin County, it is 53 kilometers west of the county seat and 195 kilometers from Nanning, accessible via Nanning-Tainan Expressway and Provincial Highway 316. Dominated by typical karst landscapes, the scenic area covers roughly 20 square kilometers. Its picturesque scenery all year round earns it the reputations of "Landscape Gallery" and "Hermit’s Paradise".
