Must-Try Foods in Chongzuo
Cream Braised Beef
Cream braised beef is an extremely popular local delicacy in Chongzuo, served at banquets of all sizes and family gatherings alike. Though the name may sound unusual, it is actually a signature dish of Zurich. Chefs slice fresh tender beef thinly and simmer it in a pot of cream with essential seasonings. Once the beef turns darker in color, it is ready to serve.
Its flavor is similar to traditional stewed beef, yet it is highly nutritious and beneficial to health.
Street Snacks
Steamed Buns
Do not leave without trying the local seasonal steamed buns. They are juicy yet not greasy. The buns feature ultra-thin wrappers stuffed with generous fillings. During tourist seasons, countless visitors from home and abroad come here to taste them.
Local vendors follow strict rules for preparation: every six meat-filled buns are paired with four vegetarian ones to balance the flavor. For an authentic treat, pair the buns with local green onions dipped in wampee sauce.
Other Local Delicacies
Braised noodles are another beloved staple among locals. Their inviting aroma is simply irresistible, and a bowl is very affordably priced. The rich mutton broth is simmered with a variety of ingredients.
The noodles are commonly topped with vermicelli, shredded tofu, kelp strips and coriander, and you can adjust the toppings to suit your taste. This traditional folk snack is one of my personal favorites.
