Shopping malls in Meizhou cluster along Jiaying Road and Meijiang Road in Meijiang District. Recommended Local Specialties of Meizhou

Hakka Mother Wine

Also known as Ninghua Fermented Rice Wine, Hakka Mother Wine is a type of glutinous rice wine. Brewed mainly from rice or corn via fermentation with natural pure koji cultures, it contains no added alcohol or artificial additives. A purely natural green drink, it can be consumed neat or simmered with chicken and other ingredients.

Baidu Beef Jerky

Baidu Beef Jerky is a time-honored Hakka delicacy famous at home and abroad. Local villagers in Baidu Fort began making it in the late Qing Dynasty, with a history of over a hundred years. Fine strips are hand-cut from robust yellow beef, seasoned with pepper and spices, sun-dried and baked. It boasts a unique crisp, sweet, fresh and slightly spicy taste.

Dapu Kuding Tea

Though named "tea", kuding is not true tea but a general term for herbal tea substitutes among Chinese folk. New drinkers usually taste an initial bitterness followed by a sweet aftertaste. Sweet, bitter and cold in nature, kuding serves as both beverage and herbal medicine. It can be steeped alone or blended with other teas and medicinal herbs.

Pingyuan Preserved Mustard Greens

A classic traditional Hakka ingredient, preserved mustard greens are cultivated in designated quiet mountain villages using fresh large leaf mustard as raw material and refined through age-old techniques. It is widely used for braised pork with preserved mustard, steamed ribs with preserved mustard, meat soups and other meat dishes. Pingyuan preserved mustard greens enjoy a long-standing reputation and sell well across China and overseas.

Meizhou Golden Pomelo

Renowned worldwide for superior quality, Meizhou Golden Pomelo has won numerous honors:
  • 1987: Rated High-Quality Fruit by the Ministry of Agriculture of China
  • 1988: Named Premium Rare Fruit of Guangdong Province
  • 1990: Certified as Green Food by the Ministry of Agriculture
  • 1991: Awarded Gold Medal at the National "Seventh Five-Year Plan" Spark Program Achievements Expo
Mei County, the core production area of golden pomelos, was officially titled "Hometown of China’s Golden Pomelos" in 1994 by the organizing committee of China’s first batch of 100 Hometowns of Special Local Products. The pomelo was recognized as a Famous Brand Product at the 3rd China Agricultural Expo in 1997. Exported to the United States, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao and other regions, Meizhou Golden Pomelo has earned widespread high praise.

Pingyuan Navel Orange

Grown in Pingyuan County, Guangdong Province, Pingyuan navel oranges feature large, attractive fruit, thin peels with fine oil glands and bright orange-red skin. Their flesh is crisp, tender, seedless, richly sweet and melts in the mouth; the fruit ripens early and withstands long-distance storage and transportation.
  • In 2003, Pingyuan navel oranges passed the national pollution-free agricultural product certification.
  • In 2006, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine granted it protection as a Geographical Indication Product.
