What Are the Must-Visit Attractions in Zhaoqing?

Dinghu Mountain

Known as a natural oxygen bar, Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area is hailed as the No.1 Mountain in Lingnan. It is China’s first national nature reserve as well as a sacred Buddhist site. Qingyun Temple here has maintained continuous incense worship for hundreds of years and ranks among the Four Great Temples of Lingnan. More than 2,500 species of higher plants grow across Zhaoqing’s Dinghu Mountain. Stepping into this forest lets you escape worldly hustle and bustle, just like wandering into a hidden paradise. (Ticket required)

Qixingyan (Seven Star Crags) (Ticket required)

Boasting breathtaking lake and mountain views, Qixingyan covers a water area of 5.3 million square metres. Seven towering rocky peaks resemble the Big Dipper constellation in the sky. Mountains rise out of the lake, caves nestle within mountains, and underground rivers wind through caves, earning it the reputation of "The No.1 Wonder of Lingnan".

Ancestral Temple of the Dragon Mother

Nestled at the foot of Wulong Mountain in Yuetown, Deqing County, it is grouped with Guangzhou’s Chen Clan Academy and Foshan Ancestral Temple as the Three Masterpieces of Lingnan Architecture. (Ticket required)

Qingyun Temple

Perched on Dinghu Mountain, 18 kilometres northeast of downtown Zhaoqing, the temple preserves precious cultural relics including inscribed horizontal plaques, Dharma thrones, a giant bronze bell, Buddhist relics and ancient scriptures. It also features famous ancient trees such as bodhi, osmanthus, old plum and kapok trees. Located inside a tourist scenic zone, the temple carries a strong commercial atmosphere.

Kowloon Lake (Ticket required)

The lake is said to be formed by the confluence of nine mountain streams. The scenic area is split into two major parts: the central Kowloon Lake Zone and Phoenix Wetland Forest Park.

Piyun Tower

Situated on Middle Renmin Road, Duanzhou District, it stands alongside the 2,800-metre-long ancient city wall first built in the Song Dynasty, which remains fully intact—a rare sight nationwide. The three-storey tower gets its name from the lingering mist and clouds that often shroud it.

Zhen Mountain

Lying 3 kilometres southwest of Sihui City, the mountain reaches an altitude of 649 metres. The scenic area is covered in lush forests with clear valleys, gurgling springs and cascading waterfalls veiled in rosy mist, presenting a fairyland-like landscape.

Thousand-Layer Peaks

Formed by layers of colourful sandstone and partial calcareous shale, a cluster of verdant peaks rises steeply. The main peak stands 233 metres high, shaped like a giant sword leaning against the sky, magnificent and precipitous.

Panlong Gorge Scenic Area (Ticket required)

This entire ecotourism zone spans 30,000 mu. It features a long canyon with over 100 waterfalls of varying sizes. It is the first tourist area recognised by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Tourism to boast a cascade group of Grade 10 and above waterfalls, acclaimed as a rare waterfall cluster in Asia and the top waterfall group in Guangdong Province.

Qixingyan Memorial Archway

Facing bustling North Tianning Road, the archway backs onto a spacious square and the vast Xinghu Lake. It looks imposing and solemn in daylight, while glowing brilliantly with colourful neon lights after dark.

Song-Dynasty Ancient City Wall (Ticket required)

Stretching 2,800 metres in circumference, Zhaoqing’s ancient city wall has weathered countless vicissitudes of history yet retains its original wall and gate positions. A Song city wall preserved so completely is scarcely seen across the whole country.

Four Pagodas of Zhaoqing

Four grand ancient pagodas stand along the Xijiang River in Duanzhou District: Chongxi Pagoda and Yuankui Pagoda on the north bank, Wenming Pagoda and Xunfeng Pagoda on the south bank. Facing each other across the river, all four were constructed in the Ming Dynasty. They are brick-and-stone geomantic pagodas featuring pavilion-style structures with walkways winding around multi-tiered platforms.

Hidden Paradise Village

A legendary ancient village enclosed by mountains on all sides, it holds a landscape utterly distinct from the outside world. Vast peach blossom groves and flocks of cattle and sheep dot the land, creating a genuine earthly paradise.

Tropic of Cancer Marker Tower

The tower is engraved with the inscription: "The Tropic of Cancer lies at 23.26 degrees North Latitude", marking the dividing line between the Earth’s tropical and temperate zones.

Guo'en Temple

The temple buildings cover over 16,000 square metres, with its gardens spanning more than 120 mu. Built against the mountain, this ancient temple features a grand scale and rigorous layout.

Panlong Cave

A karst cave formed over hundreds of millions of years. Inside, stalactites take countless fantastic shapes, while stone pillars and stalagmites stand like dense forests. Scenic wonders unfold around every corner.

Leizhou Ancient City

Located more than 70 kilometres from downtown Zhanjiang, it is lined with numerous cultural relics and historic sites. Its unique Leizhou culture and charming peninsula scenery combine to form an exceptional tourist landscape.
