Mountains in Zhaoqing & Hiking Spots

Also spelled Luoshan Mountain. It stretches north-south between Huaiji County and Yangshan County, extending into Guangning County with a total length of 130 kilometres. Its main peak Dachou Summit stands at 1,626 metres above sea level. The main mountain range includes Luoke Peak (1,339 m, within Guangning County), named for its contour resembling a spiral snail shell.

Also known as Ishikawa Mountain. It is located in Qiaoshui Town, 47.5 kilometres northeast of Huaiji County seat, and is the highest peak of Huaiji at 1,626 metres. Its mountaintop looks like a giant bird’s nest, originally called Dacha Summit (Nest Top), later phonetically renamed Dachou Summit.

Situated in eastern Huaiji County. Its territory spans from Yunshan-Hui’ai of Guangning County in the east to Jiajinping in the west, from Zaigou-Hui’ai of Guangning in the south to Liming-Tianxin of Yangshan County in the north, covering 28 square kilometres with an altitude of 1,331 metres. A round cave shaped like an earthen jar sits on the mountain; the cave stays cool all year round, hence the name.

Also named Dading Boundary Mountain. It lies 48 kilometres north of Huaiji County seat, covering 100 square kilometres with an elevation of 1,611 metres. Its territory stretches from Jiebankeng in the east to Lengshuikeng in the west, and from Baishui Logging Farm of Qiaoshui Town in the south to Maliudai of Liannan County in the north. Originally called Dading Boundary Mountain, it was renamed Wangjun Mountain in 1951 when a PLA survey unit mapped military terrain here.

Located in Lanzhong Township, northwest Huaiji County, covering 40 square kilometres. Its territory runs from Gucheng in the east to Shuangxing in the west, and from Taiping in the south to the county border in the north. The highest peak Eryue Peak reaches 1,291 metres. Composed of Touyue, Eryue and Sanyue Peaks, it gets the name Yue Mountain (Three Peaks Mountain).

On the border between northwest Huaiji County and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, its main peak rises to 1,274 metres. The name derives from ancient Zhuang language: "Lao" means mountain, "Huang" means huge, literally "Great Mountain Top".

At the junction of Huaiji and Fengkai Counties, covering 80 square kilometres with an altitude of 1,274.4 metres. Its territory extends from Tiantangbei of Huaiji in the east to Shenliu of Fengkai in the west, Qingshui River of Fengkai in the south and Daluoping of Huaiji in the north. Seven peaks over 1,000 metres tall line up like the Big Dipper, giving it the name. Heavy frost and snow blanket the mountain in deep winter, earning it the alias White Cliff Mountain.

Marking the dividing line between Huaiji and Fengkai Counties, it spans 180 square kilometres with an elevation of 1,175.4 metres. Its range stretches from Fengdong of Fengkai-Fengdong of Huaiji in the northeast to Silongdong of Fengkai in the southwest, linking with Kaijian Basin in the northwest and the western valley near Qiaotou Town, Huaiji in the southeast. Kaijian County Records of the Daoguang Reign (Qing Dynasty) states the name originates from local ancient residents who were upright and candid in speech.

On the triple border of Fengkai, Yunan Counties and Guangxi, the main peak stands at 449 metres. It is the source of Dayong River, hence the name.

In central Fengkai County, its main peak reaches 927 metres. According to Taiping Huanyu Ji (Records of the Universal Peace of the Song Dynasty), it was named after Mo Qilin, a top imperial scholar of the Tang Dynasty who once resided here.

Northwest Fengkai County, main peak at 706 metres. The mountaintop resembles a traditional Chinese inkstone, giving the mountain its name.

On the western border of Fengkai County and Guangxi, main peak elevation 614 metres. The mountain mass looks like a giant dragon soaring toward the sky, hence the name.

Eastern Fengkai County, main peak 927 metres. The summit is covered in dark black rock formations, leading to its name.

East-central Fengkai County, peak height 261 metres. Taiping Huanyu Ji records: "The stone bears five colours, so it is named Great Painted Stone Mountain."

East of downtown Zhaoqing, on the left bank of Xijiang Lingyang Gorge, covering 19 square kilometres. Its territory stretches from Lingyang Gorge in the east to the line of Su Village-Matou Ditch in the west, Lingyang Hill in the south and Guiwan in the north. The main peak Longmen Summit stands at 615 metres. Legend says a divine sheep defeated a monster and turned to stone to guard the mountain. A military outpost called Dragon Gate Garrison was built here in the Qing Dynasty, hence the alias Dragon Gate Mountain.
