Fun Attractions at Fairy Lake
Peach Blossom Island
Peach Blossom Island sits at the new dock of the Fairy Lake Scenic Area, named after the peach trees growing all over the island. The entrance is built in the style of an ancient city wall. Many bricks are carved with inscriptions such as Yunan Academy, Hongderun Hall, Pingheng Mansion, Song Lingjie Wall and Bricks of Ancient Xinyu County. These bricks were recycled from old buildings demolished during Xinyu’s urban renewal.
The island features numerous scenic spots, including an ancient city tower, the Garden of Three Friends of Winter, and a bungee trampoline. Two highlights are an ancient stone stele of the Ming Dynasty inscribed with Spirit Tablet of Master Lu Ban, and a giant banyan tree root covering over 20 square meters. The gnarled roots twist and tangle, exuding a primitive and wild charm.
Bird Garden
Located at the heart of Wolong Lake within Fairy Lake, Bird Garden is a perfect spot for bird watching. Surrounded by water on four sides and embraced by mountains on three, it faces Ruohong Archipelago across the lake to the north, resembling a glowing pearl.
The bird viewing area consists of Paradise of Hundred Birds, Peacock Garden and Ostrich Garden. The bird performance arena hosts wonderful shows, where parrots of all sizes perform various tricks under trainers’ guidance. On the lush meadow, hundreds of pure white doves play leisurely.
Love Island
Covering over 70,000 square meters, Love Island centers on love culture. It aims to carry forward love traditions and wedding customs, creating a paradise for lovers worldwide.
The island is packed with romantic attractions: the World Wedding Grand View Garden showcasing diverse wedding customs around the globe, a water golf driving range, and the Fairy Lake Global Film Studio — one of Asia’s largest wedding photography bases. Other facilities include a lovers' lock area, a church, Sea of Love, Romantic House, sea-view dock, Japanese-style landscapes, European-style streets, imperial waterways, water golf courses and a wedding photo studio.
Celebrity Island
Lying in the northwest of Wolong Lake in eastern Fairy Lake, Celebrity Island is a key part of the Wolong Lake Scenic Area. Built in the simple and elegant style of classical Jiangnan gardens, it covers 65 mu and comprises two islets. It mainly honors distinguished figures from Xinyu’s past and present. Four major attractions stand here: Celebrity Sculpture Garden, Baoshi Garden, Red Army Emplacement and Drunken Brush Hall.
The horizontal tablet above the entrance gate bears the island’s name, inscribed by Fu Ershi, second son of the renowned painter Fu Baoshi. Powerful couplets flank the gate, while sculptures depicting Gan Bao Writing Records of the Search for Spirits* and The Fairy Maiden Descending to the Mortal World decorate the adjacent walls. A stone tablet carved with Record of Celebrity Island is embedded in a huge boulder nearby.
The 6,700-square-meter Celebrity Sculpture Garden is a distinctive highlight. Statues of over a dozen outstanding local figures from different eras are displayed here, offering visitors a quick glimpse of Xinyu’s remarkable historical personalities.
Knife Mountain and Fire Sea
This show features the traditional folk stunts Walking on Blades and Treading on Fire, performed by young performers of the Lisu ethnic group from Yunnan. The island is shaded by towering ancient trees, with birds singing everywhere, presenting a serene and picturesque landscape.
Originating from an ancient Lisu tradition, the blade ladder stands 32 meters high, made up of 72 sharp steel blades placed horizontally. After blade inspection, toasting and incense offering, the brave performers climb up and down the towering ladder bare-handed and barefoot to the beating of drums, praying for blessings from gods. Their movements are as agile as monkeys, yet they remain completely unharmed. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of folk songs and dances presented by artists from the Wa, Yi, Bai and other ethnic groups.
Immortal Gathering Island
Situated in the eastern part of Wolong Lake and southwest of Jiangkou Dam, Immortal Gathering Island is flanked by two jagged Egret Peninsulas. Though it only spans 250 square meters, this tiny islet serves as a vital water and land passage leading to major scenic spots.
The core attraction is the Immortal Gathering Platform, together with the sculpture group The Fairy Maiden Descending to the Mortal World. Standing around 9 meters tall, the round platform is an exquisite dome-shaped pavilion with two sections: the upper chamber and the base. The upper part has a circular roof and eight arched lattice windows, shaped like flower petals or feathered garments of celestial beings. The base functions as a shop selling tourist crafts, souvenirs and local specialties.
Hongyang Cave
Also known as Yan Song Cave or Fox Fairy Cave, Hongyang Cave lies at the southern foot of the third peak of Yuan Ridge in the northwest of Qianyang Lake. It overlooks Changshan Temple to the west and Qianyang Lake to the south. Famous for its deep, peculiar limestone formations, it has been a well-known scenic spot since ancient times.
Ten-Thousand-Year Bridge
Also called Longevity Bridge or East Gate Bridge, this large 11-arch stone bridge stretches across the southern part of Qianyang Lake in Fairy Lake. It is 384 meters long and 7.68 meters wide, once the main thoroughfare from the ancient FenyI County to the southern regions.
Dragon King Island
Located in the southeast of Fairy Lake and 250 meters away from Liuhua Archipelago, Dragon King Island covers 51 hectares, measuring 950 meters from north to south and 750 meters from east to west. It stands gracefully apart from the bustling area, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Exotic pines and slender bamboos vie for beauty, while green vines and wild flowers bloom side by side.
Two delicate pavilions sit on the hillsides on the east and west sides respectively — Ningxiu Pavilion and Shuying Pavilion, both named by Nie Peng. Built with white pillars and simple eaves, Ningxiu Pavilion is a hexagonal stone pavilion with an upturned roof imitating tiled roofing. Stone benches and railings are arranged around its base, with slanted backrests for visitors to rest.
Changshan Temple
Also named Dragon Mother Temple, Yucheng Lord Temple and Holy Mother Temple, Changshan Temple stands on the west bank of Changshan Gorge at the western end of Qianyang Lake. Facing east against mountains and rivers, the grand ancient complex consists of three rows of buildings amid lush old trees.
Fifty-four statues are enshrined inside, with Dragon Mother (also respectfully called Goddess of Changshan) as the principal deity. The temple houses numerous calligraphy works, paintings and poems donated by literati through the ages. Additional structures including the gate tower, enclosing walls and Wenchang Pavilion were added during the reigns of Emperors Yongzheng and Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty.
Snake Island
Snake Island is located to the north of Ruohong Archipelago in Wolong Lake, covering merely 3.5 mu, slightly larger than Immortal Gathering Island. Upon arrival, a large brown boulder shaped like a plum vase comes into view, carved with two bold red Chinese characters meaning Snake Island in a simple, classic style. Many tourists take photos beside the stone.
