The China Yellow River Altar features an innovative bronze structure, embodying the Chinese nation’s spirit of remembering the origin of water, showing profound gratitude and revering the Mother River. Its overall layout is designed around six thematic lines: the line of Chinese sacrificial culture, the line of the Yellow River’s 5,000-year civilization, the line of bronze art exhibition, the line of imperial sacrificial gardens, the line of traditional Chinese numerology, and the line of traditional Chinese cultural symbols.
Architecturally, it follows the layout of three zones, five memorial archways, three avenues, three grand halls, one square, one main altar and one courtyard.
The three zones consist of the Reflection Zone, the Ritual Zone and the Gratitude Zone.
The five archways are the Grand Archway of China Yellow River Altar, Reflection Archway, Ritual Archway, Gratitude Archway and Cultural Profundity Archway.
The three avenues are the Stele Forest Avenue, Farming Culture Avenue and Literary Elegance Avenue.
The three grand halls include the Hall of Chinese Humanistic Ancestors, the Hall of Filial Piety and Virtue, and the Ancestral Hall of Hundred Family Surnames.
Additionally, there are the Yellow River Square, the China Yellow River Main Altar and the Yellow River Culture Research Institute.
The grand archway serves as the main entrance to the altar. This monumental bronze archway has ten pillars and nine gateways, standing 15.8 meters high with a span of 45 meters. It is the largest bronze archway in China, a creation unprecedented in history, fully showcasing the profound, extensive and magnificent spirit of the Yellow River culture.
Past the grand archway lies the first of the three avenues — the Stele Forest Avenue, 63 meters long and 54 meters wide. Flanking the avenue are 18 bronze steles engraved with classic poems eulogizing the Yellow River from successive dynasties.
Carved on the left and right sides of the bronze Reflection Archway are the inscriptions "Remember where your water comes from" and "Repay kindness with gratitude", which define the theme of the Reflection Zone. This area showcases traditional Chinese filial piety culture and expresses sincere devotion to the Mother River. The kylin stone beasts standing on both sides of the archway are particularly eye-catching. An ancient saying goes: "When kylins appear, the Yellow River runs clear; when the Yellow River is clear, sages shall emerge." As auspicious creatures closely associated with the Yellow River, kylins are perfect guardians for the archway.
On the right side of the square altar stands the Yellow River Bell, and on the left is the Yellow River Drum, adopting the traditional implication of "morning bell and evening drum, bells and drums sounding in unison". Designed by the Jinling Ancient Art Bronze Research Institute, the Yellow River Bell is cast with bronze sourced from across the country. It weighs 9.999 tons, with a height of 3.6 meters, a mouth diameter of 2.61 meters, and its decorative horned beast on top measures 0.54 meters in height. Adorned with auspicious patterns of Yellow River culture including Tai Chi, Eight Trigrams, River Map, Luo Shu, Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, Black Tortoise, as well as Helan Mountain rock paintings of figures and farmlands, it is hailed as the No.1 Bell of the Yellow River.
Built in 2009, the ecological restaurant covers an area of 8,000 square meters, with glass walls on three sides overlooking water. While dining here, guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the towering Niushou Mountain, the surging Yellow River and the rippling Qixia Lake.
