What tourist attractions are there in Mianyang?
1. Qiqushan Grand Temple
A renowned scenic spot in northwestern Sichuan, Qiqushan Grand Temple features magnificent mountain terrain. Temples cling to the cliffs amid lush tall trees, presenting stunning scenery. It is hailed as the Pearl of the Ancient Shu Road. The legend of "Five Strong Men Opening the Mountain", depicted in The Hard Road to Shu by the Tang poet Li Bai, took place right here.
2. Medicine King Valley
As China’s first mountain resort themed on traditional Chinese medicine health preservation, it is also the first newly built scenic area in Sichuan rated as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction after the Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008. Nestled on Medicine King Mountain in Linfeng Village, Guixi Township, Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County, the resort covers a total area of around 10 square kilometers.
3. Fule Mountain
Located 2 kilometers east of downtown Mianyang, Fule Mountain is famous for its classical gardens. It blends relics of the Three Kingdoms Period with natural landscapes. According to historical records, in the 16th year of Jian'an reign of the Eastern Han Dynasty (211 AD), Liu Bei entered Sichuan and was invited by Liu Zhang to this mountain. Delighted by the gathering and wine, Liu Bei exclaimed, "What great joy we have today!" Hence the name Fule Mountain, literally meaning "Mountain of Great Joy".
4. Beichuan Qiang City Tourist Area
Lying in Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County of Mianyang, this open scenic area spans 6.01 square kilometers. It integrates memorial sites, places for expressing gratitude, Qiang customs and ecological leisure spaces. Major sites include the Beichuan Earthquake Ruins, the new Beichuan County Town, Beichuan Earthquake Memorial Hall, Beichuan Qiang Folk Custom Museum, Jina Qiang Village and Weisite Tourist Center.
5. Douchuan Mountain
Also known as Tuan Mountain, it stands on the east bank of the Fujiang River, 20 kilometers north of Jiangyou City. It is an important part of the national-level Jianmen Shu Road Scenic Area. Three peaks rise abruptly on the mountaintop, each over 100 meters high. An ancient temple sits atop every peak, namely Dongyue Temple, Douzhen Temple and Lu Ban Temple. Only the western peak is accessible via a narrow perilous path, while the other two peaks are connected by a suspension bridge made of two iron chains.
6. Mianyang Science and Technology Museum
Situated beside the picturesque Furong Stream, the museum faces Fule Mountain Scenic Area, Chinese Scientists Sculpture Park and the under-construction Mianyang Museum across the distance. It is also adjacent to Furong Hancheng Food Street and Fule Bus Station.
7. Jiuhuang Mountain
Western Qiang Jiuhuang Mountain Scenic Area is located in Guixi Township, Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County, with an altitude of 2,840 meters and a total area of 25 square kilometers. It lies on the tourist route linking Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou.
Located in China’s only Qiang autonomous county, this is a major settlement of the Qiang people. Here you can admire grand Qiang watchtowers and age-old white stone shrines, listen to melodious Qiang flute music, and experience the Qiang culture with a history of thousands of years.
8. Buddha Cave
Fourteen kilometers northwest of Jiangyou City, Buddha Cave is the largest mysterious karst cave in northwestern Sichuan. It adjoins Kuang Mountain (also called Daitian Mountain) to the north and Li Bai’s Reading Platform to the south. To its east lie Guanwu Mountain and Douchuan Mountain, and to its west stand Yinghua Mountain and Qianyuan Mountain. It is a vital passage to Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area. Surrounded by mountains, rivers and verdant ancient trees, the cave boasts breathtaking scenery.
9. Prince Yue Tower
First built between 656 and 661 during the Xianqing reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty, it was commissioned by Li Zhen, the eighth son of Emperor Taizong of Tang, when he served as the governor of Mianzhou. Together with Yellow Crane Tower, Prince Teng Pavilion and Yueyang Tower, it ranks among the Four Great Towers of the Tang Dynasty.
Since the Tang Dynasty, over 150 poems and odes have been composed for this tower by literati. For this reason, it is praised by scholars as the No.1 Tower for Poetry and Prose under Heaven.
10. Bao'en Temple
Fully titled Imperial-Ordered Bao'en Temple, it is situated in Pingwu County, Mianyang, 184 kilometers away from the urban area. It is the best-preserved imperial-style Buddhist temple complex of the Ming Dynasty in China.
Constructed under imperial edict by father and son Wang Xi and Wang Jian, hereditary local officials of Longzhou Pacification Commission, the temple was founded in the fifth year of the Zhengtong reign of Emperor Yingzong of the Ming Dynasty (1440), with a history of more than 560 years to date
