Gaizhou boasts a century-long history of apple cultivation. At one time, its apple planting area and output ranked first among all county-level regions nationwide, earning it the title "Hometown of Apples". In recent years, Gaizhou City has vigorously implemented the strategy of "revitalizing agriculture and the city through fruit industries" and pushed forward the development of "one signature industry per county", making the apple industry a distinctive pillar sector that enriches local residents once again.
At present, Gaizhou’s apple planting area covers 315,000 mu with 14.1 million fruit trees, covering 183 administrative villages and involving 190,000 rural households across the city. Last year, Gaizhou yielded 300,000 tons of apples with an output value of 1.5 billion yuan. A total of 58,700 tons were exported, generating foreign exchange worth 58.73 million US dollars. Driven by leading enterprises such as Longxin Company and 230 professional fruit cooperatives, Gaizhou has developed 120,000 mu of contract apple farming, linking 70,000 households. The pollution-free planting area reaches 350,000 mu, and over 85% of fruits are premium grade. Local apple brands including "Gaizhou Apple", "Fuda" and "Yingxingyue" have been officially registered.
