Recommended Attractions in Jinzhou

1. Bijia Mountain (Pen Rack Mountain)

It is a famous Taoist sacred mountain. Facing the Bohai Sea and adjacent to Jinzhou Port, it lies within Jinzhou Economic & Technological Development Zone.
The core attractions are Bijia Mountain Island and the Natural Overpass. The scenic area is divided into five zones: island sightseeing, sea cruising, coastal recreation, beach bathing and holiday resorts.
Other scenic spots cluster closely together, including Saddle Bridge, Sky Crack, Divine Turtle Going out to Sea, Stone Monkey Crossing the River, Tiger Trap Cave and Dream Orchid Bay. There are numerous cultural relics: Lv Zu Pavilion, Sun Palace, Five Mothers Palace, Ten Thousand Buddha Hall, Dragon King Temple and Sanqing Pavilion.
A 1,620-metre gravel causeway rises above the beach, linking the coastline to the island. Locals call it the "Natural Overpass". This flat straight road emerges and disappears with the rise and fall of the tide, just like a giant dragon lurking in the waves. It is a miraculous wonder unmatched anywhere under heaven.
Ticket: 40 RMB

2. Qingyan Temple

Qingyan Temple Scenic Area is situated in the west of Changxingdian Town, Beizhen City, Jinzhou. It is one of the top tourist sites on Yiwulu Mountain.
First built in the Northern Wei Dynasty and flourishing in the mid-Tang Dynasty, the temple boasts a 1,500-year history with profound cultural heritage and a strong Buddhist atmosphere. Founded by the monk Shi Zhensu of Bohai Kingdom, it was originally named Eternal Temple and renamed Qingyan Temple in the Ming Dynasty.
The Upper Courtyard is home to the world-famous Goddess with a Crooked Neck. This Buddha statue is unique across the globe and one of the 32 incarnations of Guanyin Bodhisattva.
Ticket: 40 RMB

3. North Putuo Mountain

Located 7 kilometres northwest of downtown Jinzhou, this mountain has a long history and rich culture. Facing South Putuo Mountain from afar, it is known as "the No.1 Buddhist Mountain beyond Shanhaiguan".
It is celebrated for eight classic views renowned throughout the sixteen prefectures of Yan and Yun: Pines and Snow on Stone Hall, Sunrise over Maple Forest, Sea View from Green Mountain, Red Rock Resembling a Crouching Dragon, Water-Dripping Guanyin, Bright Sunshine over Hongchi Pool, Sunset over Beacon Tower, and so on.
You will find magnificent mountain ridges, oddly shaped peaks and rocks, mountain springs hidden among cypresses and bodhi trees, and steep cliffs draped with ancient trees. Famous peaks, ancient temples and cliff carvings form picturesque scenes at every turn.
The nine scenic zones contain more than fifty attractions, integrating clouds, rocks, water, caves, forests, flowers, fish and birds. Grandeur, peril, wonder, seclusion, motion, tranquility and beauty complement each other perfectly. It is indeed a blessed paradise on earth.
Ticket: 50 RMB

4. Drum Tower (Beizhen)

Beizhen Drum Tower stands in front of the Bell Tower at the city centre of Beizhen. It was originally the South City Gate of Xianzhou built in the Liao Dynasty. In 1580, the 8th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Wanli ordered Governor Zhou Yong of Liaodong to construct the tower in honour of General Li Chengliang.
Generals Li Chengliang and Ma Yong once used it as a reviewing stand for troops. In the Qing Dynasty, it was rebuilt into a two-storey single-eave hip-and-gable building covering 625 square metres with a large wooden frame structure built on a solid base.
The base is made of bricks. The upper part is lined with parapets and has an arched gateway in the middle. There is a north gate with 40 stone steps leading up to the terrace. In the centre stands an 8-metre two-storey attic accessible by stairs.

5. Memorial Museum of the Liaoshen Campaign

The museum was founded in 1959. Marshal Ye Jianying inscribed its name in October 1978. The new building was officially opened to the public on 31 October 1988, north of the railway bridge east of Jinzhou Railway Station.
Fourteen years later, it closed for renovation at the end of 2002 and reopened on 2 November 2004 after the project was completed. The renovation turned it into a large historical and cultural theme park combining education, exhibition, tourism and leisure.
Covering 180,000 square metres, the whole park follows the military theme. Relying on natural terrain, it connects the central stairway with various squares and endows the main buildings (gate, pagoda and exhibition hall) with thematic meanings, forming three layers of memorial space.

6. Yiwulu Mountain

Known anciently as Yuweilv or Wulü Mountain, it is located in Liaoning Province and designated a national nature reserve. Starting from the Sui Dynasty, it was listed as one of the Five Great Guardian Mountains of northern China and rose to nationwide fame.
Emperors of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties would hold remote worship ceremonies here after ascending the throne, making it the most celebrated mountain in Northeast China.
It is famous at home and abroad for its profound history and fantastic natural scenery. Major sights include: Beizhen Temple, Holy Water Bridge, Fish Pond, Guanyin Pavilion, Four-Corner Pavilion, Grand Observation Pavilion, Penglai Fairyland, Lotus Stone, Sea View Temple, Ten-Thousand-Year Pine, Laoye Pavilion, Wind Well, Peach Blossom Cave, White Cloud Pass and Panoramic View Terrace.
