The Top Ten Local Specialties of Jinzhou
1. Heishan Peanuts
Heishan Peanut is a specialty of Heishan County, Liaoning Province and a national Geographical Indication product of China.
It enjoys a high reputation in domestic and international peanut markets for its premium quality, round grains, high protein content and especially the absence of aflatoxin. Professional European peanut magazines have specially covered this feature and spoken highly of Heishan Peanuts. The product is always in short supply in Japan and European markets.
Peanuts under the brand “Green Fangshan” have been exported to Japan and the European Union for 20 consecutive years without exceeding the aflatoxin limit.
Heishan Peanuts are plump and round, rich in fat and protein with high nutritional value. Tests show the fat content reaches 44%–45%, protein 24%–36%, and sugar about 20%. They also contain thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinic acid and other vitamins, as well as abundant minerals and essential amino acids that boost brain cell development and improve memory.
2. Heishan Brown-Shell Eggs
At the second expert review meeting for agricultural product geographical indications organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2012, Heishan Brown-Shell Eggs passed evaluation and entered the public notice period for national geographical indication certification. This marked the large-scale, standardized and industrialized development of laying hen breeding in Heishan County and greatly lifted the popularity of local eggs.
All feed for laying hens is green, pollution-free corn grown within Heishan County. The region enjoys long sunshine hours, a long frost-free season and a long corn growing period on fertile land. The corn boasts high nutrition with crude protein above 11%, 3 percentage points higher than the national standard, and lysine content 2–3 percentage points higher than corn from other regions. Free of aflatoxin and other harmful substances, it is ideal poultry feed. Consequently, the eggs are rich in amino acids, minerals and vitamins with unique nutritional value.
In addition, the hens are raised under healthy breeding conditions. Probiotics are added to the feed throughout the breeding cycle to suppress harmful bacteria and enhance immunity. No medicine is administered during the laying period, and sick hens are culled individually. This effectively reduces drug residues and guarantees top egg quality.
