Longtang Waterfall is located in Longtang Village, 4 kilometres northeast of Zhaojiacha Village, Liangjiazhai Township, and 87 kilometres northeast of the county seat. The area is covered with rolling mountain ridges and overlapping cliffs. The waterfall originates at the junction of Wutai County and Yu County in Shanxi Province and Pingshan County in Hebei Province.

From a distance, a silver thread of water flows out of the mountain valley in the northeast and gradually grows larger as it winds along. After roughly 2 kilometres, the current reaches the edge of the waterfall: Black Dragon Pool. Water plunges from Black Dragon Pool with a drop of 24.5 metres into the Great Dragon Pool. After flowing calmly for 12 metres out of the pool, the water cascades into the Second Dragon Pool with a 1.5-metre fall. Both pools are semicircular.

The water then travels another 10 metres on level ground before pouring into the Third Dragon Pool from a height of 32 metres. This pool is jar-shaped with a narrow opening and a broad bottom. The overflowing water runs about 7 metres downhill and forms a wide beach at the foot of the mountain before flowing down the valley.

Seen from afar, the waterfall tumbles down in multiple tiers like unfurled silk ribbons and scattering pearls, presenting a magnificent and breathtaking view.
