The Peach Blossom Spring
Located in Changde, Hunan Province, the Peach Blossom Spring Scenic Area is embraced by tranquil woods and graceful valleys.
First built in the Jin Dynasty, it reached its heyday in the Tang and Song dynasties, was destroyed by wars in the Yuan Dynasty, and revived in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Great literati of past ages including Meng Haoran, Li Bai, Han Yu and Su Shi once visited here and left precious calligraphy and poems.
The current scenic area covers over 150 square kilometers, encompassing Taoxian Ridge, Taoyuan Mountain, Peach Blossom Mountain, Qin Village and other scenic zones. Tourists can also explore the Yuanjiang River Scenic Belt, the Colorful Ling City Ruins of the Warring States Period and Reshi Hot Springs.
If you are not interested in newly built pavilions and towers, you can still indulge in the peaceful idyllic scenery. Bordering the Yuanjiang River and surrounded by rolling mountains, the area is covered with ancient trees and tall bamboos. You can still experience the poetic scene described in The Peach Blossom Spring: Fresh grass spreads far and wide, while fallen petals drift in profusion.
Taoyuan County holds the Peach Blossom Festival on March 26 every year. The rich activities include lantern shows, folk custom tours of local villages, Qin-Chu folk culture experiences, Yuanjiang River cruises, Taochuan Palace Temple Fairs and cultural seminars.
