How to Travel to Shennongjia from Other Places

National Highway 209 and several provincial highways run through Shennongjia, forming a well-connected road network linking Xiangfan, Shiyan, Yichang, Xingshan, Badong and other cities and counties.

It is 212 kilometers north to Shiyan, providing easy access to National Highway 316, Wuhan-Shiyan Expressway and Xiangfan-Chongqing Railway. To the east, it is 271 kilometers away from Xiangfan, connecting with National Highway 207, Xiangfan-Chongqing Railway and Jiaozuo-Liuzhou Railway. The southern route stretches 241 kilometers to Yichang, where travelers can take Yangtze River water transport, use the Three Gorges Airport and access Yichang-Huangshi Expressway. Shennongjia is easily reachable by railway, highway and air.

Road transport dominates local travel within Shennongjia. The total length of roads here exceeds 1,300 kilometers, crisscrossing the entire forest area. Regular passenger buses are available between Shennongjia and major neighboring cities including Wuhan, Yichang, Shiyan and Xiangfan.

You may take trains or flights to Wuhan, Yichang or Shiyan based on your departure location.
Long-distance buses run from Shiyan and Yichang to Songbai Town and Muyu Town. Songbai Town is the seat of Shennongjia Forestry District Government, while Muyu Town lies close to Shennongding and Xiangxiyuan Scenic Areas. There are two daily scheduled buses: one departs at 7:30 a.m. and the other at 2:40 p.m., with fares of 68 yuan and 85 yuan per person respectively. Buses in Shiyan depart from Sanyan Long-Distance Bus Station.

For other times, you can take a bus from Shiyan to Fangxian County, where frequent rides head for Songbai Town and Muyu Town. In addition, carpool services to Muyu Town are available outside the long-distance bus station. The original fare was 75 yuan per person, and a chartered car cost 300 yuan in total. Prices have risen recently, and bargaining is acceptable.

Self-driving route from Yichang to Muyu Town
Yichang → Huanghua → Xiaofeng → Wuduhe → Gaolan → Xiakou → Gaoyang Town → Muyu Town
Total distance: 210 km. Driving time for a private car: around 4 hours.
Self-driving route from Shiyan to Muyu Town
Shiyan → Fangxian County → Gangchangping → Yantian → Hongping Town → Muyu Town
Total distance: 270 km. Driving time for a private car: around 5 hours.
From Wuhan, you can take a direct long-distance bus to Songbai Town at Fujiapo Long-Distance Bus Station. The whole journey takes about 10 hours.

A sleeper bus departs from Xinhua Road Long-Distance Bus Station at 8:00 p.m. daily for Xingshan County and arrives at 6:00 a.m. the next day. Mini shuttles run every half hour from Xingshan to Muyu Town, covering a distance of 60 kilometers.

Alternatively, take the overnight train from Wuhan to Shiyan (departs at 10:00 p.m. and arrives after 6:00 a.m.). Then catch the 7:30 a.m. long-distance bus to reach Muyu Town by noon.
