1. Self-driving
Travellers departing from Beijing should get on the G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway at Qinghe Toll Station and follow the road signs.
Drive 162 km on G6 Beijing-Tibet Expressway, then 57.4 km on Zhangcheng Expressway, and exit at Chongli South to reach downtown Chongli.
The total distance is 221.1 km with a highway toll of 95 RMB. There are 6 service areas along the route for rest and refueling.
Tips
Road clearance in Chongli after snowfall is slower than in major cities, so drive cautiously on the way to the ski resort. Drivers of rear-wheel-drive vehicles must check the weather forecast in advance.

2. Carpooling
Private carpool with self-driving skiers
Every Friday evening once the ski season kicks off, numerous skiers set off for Chongli with their gear right after work. If you do not have your own car, post your travel plans in ski enthusiast groups or carpool apps — you will always find a fellow skier willing to give you a ride.
Chartered buses operated by ski clubs
Many ski clubs run scheduled coaches to Chongli every Friday night, but advance reservations are required. A one-way ticket costs around 80 RMB, and a round trip is approximately 150 RMB. Buses usually head back to Beijing at about 15:00 on Sunday, arriving in Beijing at roughly 20:00.
You can meet plenty of experienced skiers on board, who will offer free skiing guidance — a great bonus.
3. Train travel
Trains from Beijing to Zhangjiakou
Visitors from all over the country can easily reach Chongli by first taking a train to any railway station in Beijing and then carpooling onward. Alternatively, take a train to Zhangjiakou Railway Station or Zhangjiakou South Railway Station and find local skiers to share a ride to Chongli.
The full distance from Zhangjiakou Railway Station to Chongli is 55.5 km.
4. Air travel
The travel logic for air passengers is similar to that of train travellers. If you fly to Zhangjiakou Ningyuan Airport, you will need to take independent transport to downtown Zhangjiakou to meet up with fellow skiers.
Ningyuan Airport is 11 km away from downtown Zhangjiakou.
5. Long-distance coach travel
The North Suburb Long-distance Bus Station has been closed, and all intercity bus departures have been relocated to Lianhuaqiao Bus Station. Passengers planning to take coaches should check schedules in advance.
Ticket prices are affordable, yet the buses make numerous stops en route, so this option is not recommended for ski trips.
Additional Tips
- During peak ski periods, the single existing expressway cannot handle heavy traffic. To support the 2022 Winter Olympics, the Yanqing-Chongli Expressway was under accelerated construction at the time of writing. Stretching 82.4 km, this expressway drastically cuts travel time, allowing passengers to travel from Beijing to Chongli in just over one hour for higher efficiency and convenience. It was scheduled to open fully in 2019.
- High-speed rail service launched in 2019 further boosted travel efficiency and convenience. A high-speed railway station was built in Chongli, directly adjacent to the Olympic competition ski venues. The whole journey takes only 45 minutes, enabling visitors to go skiing in the morning and return home to rest at night.
