Which Ski Resort in Chongli Is the Best? Where Are Chongli’s Ski Resorts Located?

In winter, skiing stands out as the most captivating outdoor activity. Dressed in bright ski suits, holding ski poles and gliding down mountain slopes on skis at high speed, you will feel like a fox darting across snow peaks, escaping the hustle and bustle of the city and immersing yourself fully in nature.

Cuiyun Mountain Galaxy Ski Resort serves as the summer and winter outdoor mountain sports hub of Cuiyun Mountain International Tourism Resort, with a planned total area of around 78 square kilometers. It currently features 12 constellation-themed ski runs stretching over 10 kilometers in total, with a maximum vertical drop of 320 meters. Two state-of-the-art high-speed cable cars are installed here, capable of accommodating more than 2,000 skiers of all ages and skill levels simultaneously.

Since its official opening on December 23, 2017, the resort has gradually rolled out more comprehensive one-stop skiing services for visitors and ski enthusiasts. In the future, it will host a full range of events including international competitions, cross-industry activities and family-parent-child interactive programs, striving to turn skiing into a trendy modern lifestyle.

When Phase I of Fulong Ski Resort opened last year, 25 ski runs were completed. This year, another 8 new runs have been added, bringing the total to 9 beginner slopes, 5 intermediate slopes, 7 intermediate-advanced slopes and 11 advanced slopes. Additionally, Fulong boasts a 70,000-square-meter terrain park — the largest of its kind in China and a signature highlight of the resort.

Thaiwoo has a master plan for 200 ski runs with a 3:4:3 ratio of beginner, intermediate and advanced slopes. At present, Phase I of Thaiwoo has finished 30 ski runs, alongside four professional competition slopes in addition to regular graded runs. Its slopes offer balanced difficulty levels with a wide variety of gradients.

Salsa, a standard intermediate run, features wide terrain and a consistent gradient with a length of roughly 3 kilometers, ideal for intermediate skiers looking to hone their skills. Ahead of this ski season, Thaiwoo upgraded its snowmaking system with hundreds of snow cannons. Strong winds have long been a common complaint among visitors, so wind barriers have been newly built alongside some intermediate and advanced slopes to mitigate wind impact on snow conditions.

Among all participating resorts, Wanlong claims the largest natural vertical drop of 580 meters, ranking first among all ski resorts in Chongli. It currently operates 32 ski runs, dominated by 22 advanced slopes, with only 4 beginner runs and 6 intermediate runs. On weekends and holidays, the short beginner slopes often become overcrowded, making the resort more suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers overall.

Chongli receives limited natural snowfall, yet skiers need not worry at Wanlong. Its snowmaking capacity ranks top among the four major local resorts and even leads the country. For the new ski season, Wanlong introduced 125 brand-new snow cannons and a fully automatic snowmaking system, pushing its total number of snow machines past 400 — far exceeding other resorts. Massive investment in artificial snow production enables Wanlong to maintain an exceptionally long ski season. It is usually the first resort to open and the last to close in Chongli, with a skiing period lasting up to six months.

Genting Secret Garden Resort was the official venue for freestyle skiing and snowboarding events during the 2022 Winter Olympics. This year, 6 new slopes have been added to its original 35 runs, consisting of 2 beginner slopes, 20 intermediate slopes, 13 advanced slopes, plus 6 off-piste trails and terrain parks. The slopes are evenly distributed, with intermediate runs as the mainstay.

Nevertheless, for expert skiers, the variety and challenge of Genting’s trails fall slightly short of Wanlong’s. While its snowmaking capacity cannot match Wanlong, the industry giant in artificial snow production, it still delivers reliable snow conditions with over 140 snow cannons and 6 snow groomers on site.
