What fun places are there in Leting?
Leting County lies along the southeastern coast of Tangshan. It is the hometown of Li Dazhao, one of the pioneering figures of the Chinese revolutionary movement. Known as the "Granary of Eastern Hebei", "Land of Abundance East of the Yan Mountains" and "Land of Fish and Rice", the county boasts a history of nearly 900 years since its founding in 1123.
In recent years, coastal and island tourist zones have been successively developed along Leting’s coastline. Centered on the New Daihe (Shallow Water Bay Bathing Beach) Resort, these scenic spots extend outwards, offering North China tourists a new coastal getaway alternative to well-known destinations such as Beidaihe and Golden Coast.
Putuo Island, Yuantuo Island and Jinsha Island are collectively known as the "Three Islands of Leting". If you have extra time after enjoying the seaside, you can take a boat trip to these offshore islands. Featuring bathing beaches, reed marshes, wetland mudflats, ancient temples, shell-collecting at low tide and fishing, a tour of the three islands will undoubtedly enrich your trip to Leting.
Yuantuo Island
Yuantuo Island takes its name from its crescent shape. It serves as a natural bathing beach and eco-tourism resort, featuring clean sand and clear seawater, as well as quieter, wilder and more pristine scenery.
Putuo Island
Originally named Shijiu Tuo, or Nineteen-Day Mound, the island was renamed Putuo Island in 2000. The name derives from hundreds of bodhi trees growing on the island, recalling the story that Sakyamuni attained enlightenment under a bodhi tree. According to the Records of Leting County, the ancient name Shijiu Tuo refers to its mortar-like terrain with a sunken center and raised edges. It is also called Nineteen-Day Mound because Emperor Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty stationed his troops here for nineteen days during his eastern campaign.
Jinsha Island
Situated in the Bohai Bay to the southwest of Leting, Jinsha Island faces Putuo Island across the sea. It gets its name from its fine golden, firm and clean sand. The island forms the westernmost tip of Dawanggang Island, stretching 1.5 kilometers from east to west. It connects to the main body of Dawanggang Island at low tide and separates into an independent islet when the tide rises.
Three Islands Tourist Wharf
Built to leverage the unique tourism resources of Putuo, Yuantuo and Jinsha Islands, the Three Islands Tourist Wharf is a dedicated tourist terminal integrating passenger transport, waiting areas, shopping and leisure facilities. It houses a catering street, tourist goods market, activity plaza, theme park and large dock basin. A fleet of more than 20 vessels of varying sizes provides convenient ferry services to and from the islands.
Shallow Water Bay Bathing Beach
New Daihe — Shallow Water Bay Bathing Beach sits in the middle section of Dawanggang Island, the largest golden sand island formed by ocean tidal erosion in China. Its coastline stretches around 26,494 meters, with seawater visibility reaching approximately 3 meters, making it an excellent natural coastal bathing beach.
Former Residence of Li Dazhao
The Former Residence of Li Dazhao is located in Daheituo Village, Leting County, built in memory of the revolutionary martyr Li Dazhao. It suffered severe damage in the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake and underwent a second large-scale renovation in 1978.
On July 23, 1982, it was designated a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the Provincial Level by the Hebei Provincial People’s Government. On January 13, 1988, the State Council listed it as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level of the People’s Republic of China.
Li Dazhao Memorial Hall
The Li Dazhao Memorial Hall functions as an exhibition center showcasing Comrade Li Dazhao’s life and achievements, a research institute for Li Dazhao studies, a patriotism education base and a popular tourist attraction. It has been designated one of the nation’s top one hundred patriotism education bases by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
Youth Square
All landscapes in the square are laid out in an arc. Elegant parasol trees, towering cedars and lush green lawns set the scene, paired with colorful sculpted lamps that create a dreamlike atmosphere. As night falls, the square glows with brilliant lights. Audio systems installed around the square fill the air with melodic music for strollers and visitors.
Ancient Luan River Ecological Park
Located in the northeastern part of Leting County, the Ancient Luan River Ecological Park sits at the midpoint of the ancient Luan River ecological water system. It integrates classic landscapes, ecological conservation, wetland experiences, popular science education, health wellness and leisure tourism. Three core projects form the park: Le Lake, Le Mountain and garden green spaces.
Le Lake constitutes the aquatic landscape core of the park, covering a water area of 540 mu. Its landscape design achieves a perfect harmony of water surfaces, bridges, pavilions, revetments and lake islets, divided into five scenic and functional zones: the Boat Berth Zone, Trestle Bridge Wave-View Zone, Hundred Lotus Elegance Zone, Fishing & Water Interaction Zone and Pastoral Style Zone. It serves as an aquatic paradise for sightseeing, recreation and water activities.
