Swallow Cave Scenic Area, Dexin Town, Guiding County

Swallow Cave Scenic Area is located in Fengjing Village of Dexin Town, 15 kilometres away from the county seat. The upper cave consists of two disconnected caverns, hence the name Twin Caves. The landscape combines grandeur, wonder, peril and grace. The cave is filled with a dazzling array of stalactites. Countless stalagmites, stone flowers, stone pines and stone pillars take vivid shapes of fish, elephants, cattle and horses.

The middle cave is the most spectacular section. It reaches 30 to 40 metres in height and 20 to 30 metres in width, while some narrow passages are only wide enough for one person to crawl through. Visitors need to climb down ropes at two points. To this day, no one has reached the end of this cave.

The lower cave stands 30 to 50 metres high and about 20 metres wide, with an underground stream running through it. After the Qingming Festival, tens of thousands of swallows gather and roost here, forming a spectacular scene, which gives the cave its name.
