Site of the Peasant Uprising on Yuhua Mountain during the Xianfeng and Tongzhi Reigns

The site is located in Taiwen Village, Jianzhong Town, Weng'an County. The mountain terrain is precipitous, stretching for more than ten li in all directions. Centered on Yuhua Mountain, it is flanked by Gaobaixi, Changan Camp, Toupo Camp and Erpo Camp, with the Yangen River, Wudao River and Sangyan River forming the outer defence line. In particular, the main peak of Yuhua Mountain is surrounded by sheer cliffs on three sides, with only a steep mountain path from Daping Mountain leading to the summit. It is a naturally endowed military stronghold.

From the 8th year of the Xianfeng reign (1858) to the sixth month of the 7th year of the Tongzhi reign (1868), the Yellow Banner rebel troops led by He Desheng set up barracks and fortifications here to launch armed struggles against the Qing government. Four major battles were fought against the Qing troops at this location. Relics including the middle camp of the rebel army, the stone barrier at the outpost of Daping Mountain and the trenches remain intact today. This historical site serves as solid material evidence of the anti-Qing uprisings in the Xianfeng-Tongzhi period.
