Shicheng Cave

It is a county-level nature reserve and water conservancy scenic area. The cave is situated in Shanshi Township, Lianhua County, Jiangxi Province, 27 kilometres away from the county seat. Tourists can take the Ji’an–Lianhua Provincial Highway and then switch to rural roads to reach the scenic spot directly.

It was originally named Shilin Cave. According to the County Chronicle: During the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty, Liu Yuanging, a great Neo-Confucian scholar and literary writer, visited the cave. He noticed that the cave entrance was as massive as a city wall, and the crisscrossing small tunnels inside resembled streets and lanes in a city. Therefore, he renamed it Shicheng Cave (Stone City Cave) based on its shape.

The cave is adorned with a dazzling variety of stalactites. Major attractions include eighteen scenic spots such as the Ornamental Pillar Awaiting Cranes, as well as historic relics like the Reading Stone. In addition, there are three separate caves named Wind Cave, Rain Cave and Snow Cave, each with unique features.
