Miyi History and Culture Exhibition Hall
I. Basic Overview
Miyi lies in southwestern Sichuan and northeastern Panzhihua, covering a total area of 2,153 square kilometers. It administers 12 towns and townships and is home to 26 ethnic groups including the Han, Yi and Lisu peoples. As the birthplace of Emperor Zhuanxu, it boasts a long-standing history and profound culture.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, all undertakings in Miyi County have flourished. To showcase Miyi’s developmental history and foster patriotism and collectivism among local residents, with strong support from higher-level authorities and joint efforts of people across the county, the Miyi History and Culture Exhibition Hall was completed and officially opened to the public on November 27, 2013.
Occupying the second and third floors of the Miyi County Archives, the exhibition hall is located at No.76 Anning Road, Panlian Town, Miyi County. Visitors from the county seat can take Bus No.1 or Special Bus No.1 to get there. Boasting a construction area of 1,300 square meters, the hall is divided into three exhibition zones. Centered on the historical and cultural evolution of Miyi, it adopts multi-media technologies such as sound, light and electricity, and presents Miyi’s history and culture in an all-round way through photos, written records, physical relics and models.
The hall houses more than 800 precious physical archives, including the Ming Dynasty An Clan Merit Stele, Miyi County Commemorative Medals (1952), and notebooks of leading cadres from Miyi’s liberation period (1950–2004). It serves as a county-level base for patriotism education, local condition education, integrity education for civil servants, social practice and archive education for primary and secondary school students, as well as a platform for cultural and artistic exchanges.
II. Key Cultural Relics
1. Cultural Relics Exhibition of May Seventh Cadre School
The Wanqiu May Seventh Cadre School was founded in Wanqiu of Miyi in February 1969, the largest of its kind in Sichuan Province. Following its establishment, 9,012 cadres and 829 workers from 86 former provincial government departments came to Wanqiu successively to participate in labor training. Among them were nearly 200 provincial and department-level leading cadres, over 800 county-level cadres, more than 8,000 general cadres and roughly 1,000 service staff. The exhibition displays restored scenes of their production labor and daily life.
2. Integrity Stele
Discovered in Xinhe Township in 1986, this stele is an official notice erected in front of the Xiaohe Ancestral Hall by the magistrate of Huili Prefecture in the 29th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1903), now known as the Integrity Stele.
3. An Clan Stele
This set of relics includes the An Clan Merit Stele erected in Salian of Miyi and several broken steles, which stand as witnesses to Miyi’s long history. The inscriptions record that the An Clan of Salian followed the imperial edict of the Ming Dynasty, marched into Sichuan from Dali, Yunnan, and rendered meritorious service in suppressing the rebellion of Yerutemur, a surrendered general of the Yuan Dynasty.
