Zhuanxu Dragon Cave Tourist Area, Miyi County, Sichuan Province

Zhuanxu Dragon Cave Tourist Area is located in Baima Town in the northern part of Miyi County, at the junction of the Longzhou Mountain Range and the Anning River Basin within Miyi territory. It borders Huili County of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, 131 kilometers from Xichang City, 106 kilometers from Panzhihua City and 26 kilometers from downtown Miyi.
The tourist area was designated as a Scenic Area of Sichuan Province in 1998, a National AA-level Tourist Attraction in 2002, and upgraded to a National AAA-level Tourist Attraction in 2006. It boasts an advantageous geographic location, sitting on the Sichuan-Yunnan-Tibet Shangri-La Tourism Loop and serving as a midway stop of the "Panxi Sunshine Holiday Tourism Zone". National Highway 108, the Chengdu-Kunming Railway and the Anning River run through the tourist area from north to south. The Panxi Expressway has an interchange in Baima Town where the scenic spot is situated, enabling convenient and fast access for visitors.
Featuring an alpine canyon landform with parallel mountains and rivers, the tourist area lies in the middle section of a north-south rift fold belt, covering an area of 10 square kilometers. The peak of Longzhou Mountain stands at an altitude of 2,800 meters, while the lowest point of the Anning River Valley sits at 1,200 meters. It has a vertical climate alternating between tropical and subtropical zones, with an average annual temperature ranging from 15℃ to 18℃.
The tourist area abounds in diverse tourism resources, featuring a serene natural environment layered with green ridges, lush trees and quiet brook valleys, with a vegetation coverage rate as high as 85%. It boasts a rich variety of caves, mountains, waters, flora and fauna. Rare karst landforms, cascading waterfalls and enchanting rift mountain top scenery create a unique charm. The landscape takes mountains as its skeleton, flowing water as its veins, plants and trees as its complexion, and is enlivened by bright blue skies, abundant sunshine, plunging waterfalls, secluded gorges and exotic karst caves. Complemented by distinctive ethnic and religious historical sites, ecological agriculture and authentic rural vibes, it perfectly integrates natural scenery and cultural heritage.
The tourist area consists of four major scenic sections: the Zhuanxu Dragon Cave Folk Custom Sightseeing Zone, the Guabang Mosque Zone featuring religious and historical relics, the Wanqiu May Seventh Cadre School Site, and Guanyin Hot Spring for spa therapy.
Developing karst formations coexisting with underground underground streams are distributed across the Longzhou Mountain Range within the scenic area (at altitudes between 1,200 and 1,500 meters), forming its core highlight. The cave embodies nearly all typical karst cave features. Stalactites, stone pillars, stalagmites, stone curtains and grape stone formations inside are all in active growth. The 1,760-meter-long developed main cave, Dragon Pool Cave, presents ever-changing karst views. Unique spatial layouts, intermittent flowing water scenes and pure white, crystal-clear carbonate formations unfold alternately, with scenery shifting alongside water and waterscapes blending seamlessly. The Dragon Palace, Heavenly Palace and six underground waterfalls are hailed as the "Three Wonders" of the cave.
Beyond its abundant diverse landscapes, the cave contains an exceptionally high concentration of negative oxygen ions, exceeding that of almost all other tourist caves nationwide. Visitors can admire stunning cave views while breathing air rich in negative oxygen ions, which is beneficial to physical health and longevity.
Adjacent to the Zhuanxu Dragon Cave cluster, 23 Dragon Pool Waterfalls of varied shapes, alongside over a hundred plant species including the rare cyatheaceae fern, form a distinctive scenic corridor. Natural forests constitute the ecological green belt of the tourist area. Connected by the same water system as the waterfalls, the ten-thousand-mu azalea forest atop Longzhou Mountain is carpeted with lush grass and shrouded in vivid, mysterious local legends.
To the north of the tourist area stands the Sichuan May Seventh Cadre School Site, the best-preserved former cadre school relic in China. The Huangcao Cherry Sightseeing Orchard and Miaozigou Ponkan Citrus Base offer immersive rural experiences. To the south, Guanyin Hot Spring, rich in spa-beneficial mineral elements and close to Provincial Highway 214, allows travelers to wash away fatigue and dust from long journeys.
All four scenic sections are closely connected and interpenetrating, with inclusive landscapes and distinct hierarchical views, delivering an excellent sightseeing experience.
