Haita lies at the headwaters of the Longdong River in Miyi County, 30 kilometers away from downtown Miyi at an altitude of 1,900 meters. The scenic area covers a total area of around 30 square kilometers, and Haita Lake spans about 600,000 square meters. Shaped like a crescent moon, it is also known as Moon Lake.
The terrain of Haita resembles a large boat. According to local legend, ancient villagers built a six-sided white pagoda on the mountain as a mooring post to tie down this "boat". The green lake and white pagoda stand facing each other, forming a beautiful paired scenery, hence the name "Haita (Lake Pagoda)". The original white pagoda was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, yet its ruins still remain a short distance west of the lake today.
