Daguan Bridge Archway, Dongjia Town, Rong County
The Daguan Bridge Archway stands on the east bank of the Laolong River at Laotongche, Group 16, Zhaojiaqiao Village, Dongjia Town, Rong County. Erected in the 12th year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1873), it was built to honor those who donated funds for the construction of Daguan Bridge. Facing west with its back to the east, the stone archway covers a land area of 8 square meters.
It is a stone memorial archway featuring a hip-and-gable roof, four pillars, three bays and five tiers. The archway is 4.4 meters wide and 6.35 meters tall overall. Chiwen ornaments adorn both ends of the roof ridge. Drum-shaped supporting stones are installed at the front and rear of the central and side pillars. The horizontal lintel of the central bay bears shallow relief carvings of opera scenes, flowers, birds, fish, insects, villages and dwellings. The three Chinese characters “Daguan Bridge” are incised on the horizontal stele. The lintels of the two side bays are decorated with patterns of swords, scroll books and other motifs.
The Daguan Bridge Archway boasts high research value for the humanistic history of Rong County and stone carving craftsmanship of the Qing Dynasty.
