Site of the Five Kings City (4th Batch Provincial Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit)

Period: Eastern Zhou Dynasty to Han Dynasty

Location: Qianwuwangcheng Village, Xinglingzi Township and Houwuwangcheng Village, Dongxiuzhuang Township, Wuzhai County

Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the site takes a rectangular layout. The city walls were built along mountain contours, stretching approximately 2,500 meters from east to west and 1,500 meters from north to south, with a perimeter of around 8,000 meters. The city is divided into northern and southern zones. Remnants of the city walls stand 0.5 to 7 meters tall. Six barbican enclosures were constructed along the wall perimeter, among which the western barbican remains well-preserved. Each barbican features a semicircular ground plan.

Architectural relics inside the city are concentrated in the southern area, including semi-subterranean dwellings with white plastered floors. Pottery, stone and bone artifacts have been unearthed from exposed strata of the site. Fine clay pottery accounts for the majority, followed by sandy-tempered pottery. A large cemetery covering about 1.5 square kilometers lies in the northwest of the city. Square pit tombs with wide tops and narrow bottoms are visible on the ground surface, some reaching over 7 meters in depth. In recent years, public security authorities have recovered looted relics including bronze swords, bronze mirrors and pottery wares, dating from the Warring States Period to the Han Dynasty.

The Site of the Five Kings City is designated a Provincial Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
