Longyou was the ancient capital of the Gumie State during the Spring and Autumn Period, boasting a long history and exquisite cultural relics. Its traditional folk houses dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties are masterpieces of architectural art, occupying a pivotal position among ancient traditional architectures south of the Yangtze River. Starting from the 1980s, the local government relocated ancient dwellings with cultural and ornamental value across the county to Jiming Mountain, balancing cultural relic protection and utilization to boost tourism based on heritage resources.
The Hall of Gaogang Qifeng (Phoenix Ascending the High Mound) is a Yuan Dynasty building. Its gate tower features upturned double eaves, exuding a vigorous imposing air, like a giant roc spreading its wings and soaring proudly toward the blue sky. The Wu Clan Hall once served as the studio of Yu Shaosong, a respected local scholar of Longyou and a renowned painter and calligrapher. The building’s greatest value lies in its integrated beam-and-dougong structure, which delivers a unique earthquake-resistant function rarely seen nationwide.
The most striking feature of the Wang Clan Residence is the stark stylistic contrast between its front hall and rear multi-story building. The rear quarters, meant for the clan’s principal residents, are supported by slender columns and beams without any wood carvings. In contrast, the front hall boasts massive tree-trunk-sized columns and beams fully adorned with brick, wood and stone carvings. Besides, there are the Ming-era Yixiu Pavilion and the Qing-era Lingshan Floral Hall, each possessing distinctive and endless charm.
The scenic spot sits on Jiming Mountain in the southern suburbs of Longyou Town, covering a total area of 66,000 square meters. The Jiming Mountain Folk Residence Garden was formed by collectively relocating Ming and Qing ancient buildings scattered across rural Longyou that lacked on-site preservation conditions. Apart from the original Jiming Tower standing on Jiming Mountain, six ancient relocated buildings are preserved here: Gaogang Qifeng Hall, Yixiu Pavilion, Wu Clan Hall, Wang Clan Residence, Shao Minor Hall and Lingshan Floral Hall. Relocation and reconstruction of these structures began in 1991.
Gaogang Qifeng Hall: Built in the Qing Dynasty, it adopts a two-courtyard, three-bay layout with a gate tower topped by a double-eave hip-and-gable roof.
Yixiu Pavilion: Erected during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty, it is a bluestone structure imitating timber framing.
Wu Clan Hall: Constructed in the early Qing Dynasty; the relocated section is the main body of the third courtyard of the original complex.
Wang Clan Residence (also named Dezhong Hall): Dating to the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, it follows a two-courtyard, three-bay design combining a front hall and rear multi-story building.
Lingshan Floral Hall: Built in the late Qing Dynasty, the relocated part is the main body of its third courtyard, featuring consummate carving craftsmanship with nearly a hundred dragon motifs alone.
Jiming Tower: A six-sided, seven-story multi-story brick pagoda built in the Ming Dynasty.
