Shimawan Drift is situated in Tongli Village, Baofu Town, Anji County, Zhejiang Province — China’s renowned hometown of bamboo.

Tongli Village lies in the mountainous region of northern Zhejiang, in southern Anji. It borders Shangshu Township to the southeast and Longwang Mountain to the southwest. Endowed with unique mountain natural resources and distinctive geographical conditions, the village boasts exclusive natural and cultural landscapes. Its gorgeous scenery and profound historical heritage have made Tongli increasingly popular among visitors. Historical records document that the ancient Tongli Temple within the village and the cluster of Nantianmu Temples built over 1,000 meters above sea level were massive temple complexes that once drew countless pilgrims. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Chen Baxian, a native of Tongli, founded a regime in Nanjing known historically as the Chen Dynasty. Moreover, during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Tongli was home to a nationally famous school: West Zhejiang No. 2 Middle School.

Within Tongli Village stands Shima Reservoir, covering a water area of nearly 50 mu with a storage capacity of 250,000 cubic meters. Shimawan Drift is located downstream of the reservoir, from which it derives its name. The river water of Shimawan is crystal clear with shimmering green ripples.
