China Great Bamboo Sea is located in Gangkou, the southern gateway of Anji County. It is the tourist attraction closest to Hangzhou, the provincial capital. Wang Xiancheng of the Qing Dynasty wrote in his Bamboo Branch Ballad: “I long to roam the ten scenic spots in spring, A quiet trail winds far up the eastern ridge. I recall clouds hovering over Green Gate Village, Rattan sedan chairs gliding gently toward Hangzhou.”

The Records of Xiaofeng County documents You Ridge on the border between Gangkou and Yuhang: “The ridge rises steep and precipitous, lined with tall emerald bamboo that brushes visitors’ garments.” Stretching rolling peaks feature sharp steep slopes and deep valleys, hence the name You Ridge (Secluded Ridge). Starting from the Southern Song Dynasty, it ranked alongside Dusong and Baizhang as the “Three Strategic Passes of Tianmu Mountain”. With its perilous terrain, it was a fiercely contested military stronghold throughout history.

In recent years, driven by the boom in domestic eco-tourism, Anji — the Hometown of Bamboo, this pure and beautiful land — has increasingly become a beloved green getaway for urban travelers. Meanwhile, rapid economic and social development has continuously upgraded local catering, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment facilities. It is 58 kilometres from Hangzhou, 55 kilometres from Huzhou, 215 kilometres from Shanghai and 235 kilometres from Nanjing.
