Former Site of the Northwest Shandong Prefectural Committee of the CPC
The Former Site of the Northwest Shandong Prefectural Committee of the CPC is located in the old town on South Street of downtown Guanxian County. Built between the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, it is an important revolutionary historic site in northwest Shandong during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the Liberation War.
From 1938 to 1946, this place successively served as the seat of the Guanxian County Party Committee of the CPC, the West Shandong Special Committee, the Northwest Shandong Prefectural Committee, the 7th Prefectural Committee of the Hebei-Shandong-Henan Border Region, and the 1st Prefectural Committee of Southern Hebei. Many national and local leaders including Song Renqiong, Duan Junyi, Zhao Jianmin, Xu Yunbei, Yang Yichen and Xu Mengxia once worked and lived here中国新闻网....
From 2004 to 2009, in accordance with the principle of restoring the historic building to its original appearance, the CPC Guanxian County Committee and the People’s Government of Guanxian County renovated the site strictly in the original style of traditional dwellings. The whole complex now consists of 17 ancient buildings, 7 courtyards, 1 square and 1 office zone, collectively named the Exhibition Hall of the Former Site of the Northwest Shandong Prefectural Committee. It houses two themed museums: the Guanxian Party History Museum and the Guanxian Cultural Heritage Museum.
The Party History Museum is divided into 3 exhibition zones with 10 exhibition halls.
The first zone mainly displays the early Party activities in Guanxian and revolutionary history during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
The second zone focuses on the revolutionary stories of the Liberation War.
The third zone showcases the history of socialist construction, reform, innovation and development after the founding of New China.
With diverse exhibits, the museum fully recreates the glorious journey of the Party and youth league organizations in Guanxian dating back to 1926.
The Cultural Heritage Museum contains four exhibition areas: unearthed cultural relics, historical events and figures; folk customs and intangible cultural heritage; traditional local folk crafts; as well as the iron bell of the Jin Dynasty and stone inscriptions from the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
The two museums are integrated with unified exhibition layout. Through photos, physical objects and other displays, they present the splendid history of Guanxian from the Longshan Culture 4,100 years ago up to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Since its opening, nearly 30,000 visitors from all walks of life across the country have come here to receive education on patriotism and revolutionary traditions.
At present, the site is listed as a project for old revolutionary base areas of China, a national AA-level tourist attraction, a Key Cultural Relic under Provincial Protection of Shandong Province, a Party Member Education Base of Shandong Province, a National Defense Education Base of Shandong Province, a Moral Education Base for the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Liaocheng University, and a Revolutionary Tradition Education Base for the School of Marxism and Ideological & Political Studies of Liaocheng University.
