Jin State Museum Tourist Area

Location: Beizhao Village, Qucun Town

The core attraction is Jin State Museum. Built on the Qucun-Tianma Site, one of the Top 100 Major Archaeological Discoveries of the 20th Century and a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit, this is the first thematic site museum in Shanxi Province. It integrates cultural relic collection, research, preservation and exhibition, and fully presents the civilization of the ancient State of Jin. It is also the only national base dedicated to the research and development of Jin culture.

The museum covers a total land area of 124,000 square metres, with a construction area of 13,000 square metres, a green area of 27,000 square metres and exhibition halls spanning nearly 9,000 square metres. It is divided into three main exhibition zones: the Exhibition Hall of History and Culture of the State of Jin, the Exhibition Hall of the Excavation History of the Qucun-Tianma Site, and the Exhibition Hall of the Marquis Tombs of Jin.

The museum showcases the tombs of nine generations of Jin marquises and their consorts dating back to the Western Zhou Dynasty, together with more than 12,000 precious unearthed artefacts. The accompanying chariot-and-horse pit is the largest one of the Western Zhou Dynasty discovered so far in China, predating the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang by 606 years. It provides precious physical evidence for the study of Western Zhou military equipment and carriage-making techniques, boasting extremely high ornamental value.

Since its opening in 2014, the museum has received over 300,000 visitors, including more than 5,000 overseas experts, scholars, foreign guests and overseas Chinese. In 2016, the museum was named a "China Overseas Chinese International Cultural Exchange Base" by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.
