Itinerary

Day 1

Pick up the group at Jian'ou Railway Station at noon for assembly. After lunch, take the coach to Xudun China Root Art City for a visit.

Jian'ou is hailed as the Capital of Chinese Root Carving, and Xudun boasts the top root carving industry nationwide. The Sub-Venue of the 16th Cross-Strait Economic and Trade Fair and the 1st Cross-Strait (Jian'ou) Root Carving Art Expo were both held in Xudun.

Later, head to Guizong Rock for sightseeing. Known as "Little Wuyi", Guizong Rock sits at the mouth of Yijun Stream, 15 kilometers north of Jian'ou urban area, covering an area of 4 square kilometers. All landscapes here are purely natural, shaped by exquisite uncanny craftsmanship without artificial adornment. Poets of successive dynasties left poems in praise of its beauty.

Afterwards, drive to Minyuan Cultural Square, the cultural hub of Jian'ou. Located on the bank of Jianxi River in Shuixi New District, the square forms an integrated complex together with the Administrative Center, Sports Center and Youth Activity Center. It is dotted with lawns, trees and bamboo groves arranged in layered orderly layouts, presenting an endless stretch of lush greenery. Boasting a concise layout, distinctive landscape design and profound cultural heritage, it ranks as a model public square in northern Fujian. Visitors may get a comprehensive insight into Jian'ou’s local culture here. Enjoy dinner and check into a hotel for overnight stay in Jian'ou.

Day 2

After breakfast, visit Fujian Shuanglong Xizhu Liquor Industry (Provincial Industrial Tourism Attraction). Tour the wine storage cave (Double Dragon Cave) and learn about Jian'ou’s unique liquor brewing techniques. Shuanglong Xizhu Liquor has an alcohol content as high as 68 degrees. Its mellow taste has earned it the reputation of "Wuliangye of Fujian".

Then travel to Jian'ou Confucian Temple. First built in the 1st year of the Baoyuan reign of the Song Dynasty (1038 AD), it boasts a history of nearly a thousand years. It also served as the shooting location for the public welfare film Golden Ode. Though not comparable to Qufu Confucian Temple in Shandong, it ranks first among all prefectural-level Confucian temples in Fujian. Yang Rong, Grand Tutor of the Ming Dynasty, praised it as "A Magnificent View of the Southeast".

After the visit, walk to Madam Lian Square in downtown Jian'ou. Madam Lian lived during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. When an army planned to massacre the whole city, she persuaded the troops to spare civilians. Later generations built her tomb behind the prefectural government office (in front of the Workers’ Cultural Palace today) and erected a stele inscribed "Mother of All Townsfolk", which is the origin of the present Madam Lian Square.

The final stop is Tongxianmen Gate, one of the five best-preserved ancient city gates of old Jianzhou and designated a Fujian Provincial Major Historical and Cultural Site. The legendary Italian traveler Marco Polo once visited Jianning Prefecture of Fujian and recorded this place in his travelogue.

After lunch, the pleasant tour concludes, and the group will be transferred back.
