Bayankuren Town is under the jurisdiction of Chenbalhu Banner, in the northwest of Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Located in the central-western part of Chenbalhu Banner, it serves as the seat of the banner government. Founded in 1957, its name "Bayankuren" derives from Mongolian, meaning "a fertile courtyard". The name originates from its location in a lush basin between the Hailar River and the Morigele River, where water and grass thrive abundantly. Grassland tourism in Bayankuren Town constitutes a core component of the grassland tourism industry of Chenbalhu Banner.

The total land area of Bayankuren Town covers 720 square kilometres, accounting for 3.39% of the entire banner’s territory. Its grassland area reaches 180 square kilometres, making up 25% of the town’s total land, mainly distributed on the south bank of the Morigele River.

Bayankuren Town administers six neighbourhood committees: No.1, No.2, No.3, No.4, No.5 and No.6. It also governs Duolan Community, Suyoule Community, Bayan Community, Tubuxin Community, five villages at the gacha level (Wulan Chulu Gacha, Bayanhada Gacha, Gegen Hushuo Gacha, Huhendur Gacha, Huhendaob Gacha), the Bayanhada Living Quarter, and one state-owned farm: Taohai Pasture.

As of 2011, the town had a total population of 23,992 residents, comprising 11 ethnic groups including Mongolian, Han, Daur, Hui, Korean, Russian, Ewenki and Oroqen.

Boasting outstanding geographical advantages and convenient transportation, Bayankuren Town lies 27 kilometres from Hailar, 42 kilometres from Hailar Airport and 166 kilometres from Manzhouli.

Bayankuren Town has been awarded multiple honours successively: National Beautiful Environment Town, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Famous Folk Custom Town, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Advanced Sports Town.
