The Yangshan Han Dynasty Tomb Group is one of the largest Han burial clusters discovered so far in Shandong Province. Apart from a large interconnected tomb complex with ten chambers unearthed on the northern slope of the hill, most tombs are small single-chamber or double-chamber stone structures. The burials are densely distributed in front of and behind the hill, with spacing ranging from one to two metres up to three to five metres between graves.

The Yangshan Han Tomb Group is famous worldwide for its painted pottery relics from the Han Dynasty. In particular, the unearthed pottery figurines and pottery horses feature exquisite craftsmanship, vivid shapes and imposing momentum with high artistic value. They fully reflect the level of productive forces in Yangshan during the Han Dynasty.

The large multi-chamber Han tomb north of the hill was discovered during the Cultural Revolution. Fine murals and precious cultural relics were excavated here, which mirror the affluent lifestyle of the upper social class at that time.

On 11 March 2001, the Yangshan Han Dynasty Tomb Group was designated a Municipal Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit by the People’s Government of Jining City.
