Li Muhui Memorial
Li Muhui (1992–2006) was a native of Dianzi Village, Xiaoyun Town, Jinxiang County. On August 12, 2006, he sacrificed his young life at the age of 14 while rescuing four drowning children from his village.
His touching heroic deed drew close attention from leading officials at the central, provincial, municipal and county levels, who all issued important written instructions.
Chen Zhili, State Councillor, commented: Risking his own life without hesitation, Li Muhui saved four drowning children, writing a stirring heroic chapter for contemporary teenagers.
Zhang Gaoli, former Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, wrote: Li Muhui’s fearless act of sacrificing himself to save others composes a glorious chapter of a new-era "Jie Wang-style good teenager". We shall promptly sum up his story and launch in-depth educational activities on the socialist outlook on honor and shame (the Eight Honors and Eight Shames).
Han Yuqun, former Governor of Shandong Province, remarked: Student Li Muhui’s heroic story is deeply moving. His noble morality and courageous conduct set an example for all of society, and people from all walks of life should earnestly learn from him.
Sun Shougang, Secretary of the Jining Municipal Party Committee, stated: Li Muhui’s heroic deeds deserve to be studied by all Communist Party members, Communist Youth League members and the general public across the city.
In November 2006, the People’s Government of Shandong Province posthumously recognized Li Muhui as a revolutionary martyr.
Dianzi Village in Xiaoyun Town, Li Muhui’s hometown, was designated a municipal patriotic education base in 2009.
