One Hundred Thousand Ancient Terraces

Separated from Nanshan Mountain by mountain peaks and facing each other from afar, One Hundred Thousand Ancient Terraces covers a total area of over 90,000 mu, with an altitude ranging from 1,200 to 1,800 meters. It features a subtropical alpine cool and humid climate, warm in winter and cool in summer.

The territory is crisscrossed by streams, carpeted with lush green grass, dotted with swaying bamboo groves and dense thickets blanketed in moss. Marsh wetlands are scattered beneath the emerald meadows, forming a picturesque alpine plain. According to legend, immortals farmed this land in remote antiquity, lending it a unique charm distinct from Nanshan Mountain.

Expert surveys have identified more than 700 plant species amid the luxuriant vegetation, including 27 varieties under national key protection, 25 aromatic plants and over 80 medicinal herbs. Among them is Hunanpanax, a new genus of the Araliaceae family discovered for the first time worldwide. The area is home to 11 rare animal species such as musk deer, black bears, golden leopards, golden pheasants, giant rock pheasants, giant salamanders and red-billed leiothrixes.
