The Peony Garden in Longzhong enjoys a well-known reputation, as reflected in the ancient saying: "On the third day of the third lunar month, go to Longzhong to view peonies."
The Xiangyang Prefecture Records compiled in the Ming Dynasty contains explicit records of Longzhong peonies, which have long been famous for their large, brightly coloured blossoms, with nearly ten thousand plants growing here.
The blooms of Longzhong peonies can reach a maximum diameter of 20 centimetres, boasting more than fifty petals each. There are 243 rare varieties in total, including Xiangyang Bright Red, Wolong Leaves the Mountain and Drooping Orchid.
